Transcript question

My daughter took a class at a state college (virtual) in the summer of 2020 (it was free due to COVID). How does she get that transcript included for her common app? Does she request the transcript from the college & then somehow put it as an attachment to her application? Does she request transcripts to be sent to each of her colleges she’s applying to (and how do we assure it doesn’t get lost but somehow gets attached to her application if so)? Does she request it through Naviance somehow (seems unlikely since the college is not likely on Naviance)? I’m sure there is a relatively simple answer to this but we have no idea. She will ask her guidance counselor at school, but the last time she mentioned it they only said not to have it put on her official transcript as it could lower her GPA (school weights nothing but their own honors courses or APs - they would not weight the college class, so even though she got an A in the class it could lower her weighted GPA). Thanks!

I would be interested in the answer to this too.

Many colleges recalculate gpa using their own formula (which classes count, what the weights are)

The common app has a FAQ on submitting dual-enrollment transcripts. See Applicant Support

Because of scheduling issues and Covid stuff, my daughter ended up taking Latin 101 at a college instead of the next in her sequence in HS. There is a place the commom app asks for other courses completed, just put it there.

And then send the transcript from the college to where she is applying. They will match it up and you can see confirmation they received it in the portals for the colleges they apply to. Most colleges use Parchment and it is electronic. Costs around $10, I think.

Thanks. This college does use parchment. I just worry about it actually getting there & getting matched with the right application but I need to let that go.

It is definitely one those times where you need to trust the process. The colleges are very efficient with the help of parchment.

For the courses applicants need to demonstrate they completed the recommended course requirements the colleges will match that up when they get the transcripts and the student noted it in the application.

To get the credit - My kids have had multiple classes transfer to their colleges. No problems. The only slightly wonky part can be how the college they are getting the degree from matches the courses from other places with their equivalent courses. But even that is usually very smooth.

Thanks, that’s comforting. She’s not looking for credit; it’s just one of the few things that shows involvement in what she says she wants to study. Plus the whole I was able to get an A in a college class (her school is small and relatively unknown).
