Will we submit the school transcript to Harvard? And if so, will my counselor or I submit it. My counselor seems not to know if we are required to submit it or no. Additionally, there doesn’t seem any place in the common app for transcripts and school profiles.
Then YOU must do the work and educate your counselor on what is expected of them by using the HELP section on the Common Application:
https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/62/Official-transcripts
That’s correct, because colleges DO NOT trust transcripts that have been submitted by students, so they do not give students the option of uploading those forms.
Admissions requires an “Official Transcript” from your guidance counselor and only allows your counselor to upload those forms. You must invite your counselor by sending him or her an email through the Common Application. When your GC logs on to your account there is a place for them to upload transcripts. Lots of information is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1AYyyzEZxE.

FWIW: As this is not a Harvard specific topic, you should review all the videos before asking additional questions. Then if you have more questions, you should post them in another section of CC: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/common-application/
I am doing my best to educate him. I brought the school transcript from the administration covering the period from grade 9 to grade 11, and handed the transcript to the counselor. So, I suppose, he has to scan it and upload a soft copy? Additionally, is there a place that explicitly states “Upload a copy of student’s transcript here” in the common app?
And I read about the school profile. However, I don’t think my school has one. So, will its absence adversely affect my application?
Thanks a lot.

Just to make sure you understand the Common Application rules: Sometimes students (especially international students) have private counselor’s not associated with a high school. Those private counselor’s ARE NOT allowed to upload your transcript.
An official from your high school MUST upload your transcript and sign their name attesting to the accuracy, honesty and integrity of your transcript. (The reason I mention this is because you stated that you brought your transcript to your counselor, when in fact a school official should already be in possession of your transcript. For international students, if your high school does not have a guidance counselor who is a school official, the principal of your high school is usually the one to upload your transcript to the Common Application.)
Yes, but only a school official (such as your high school principal) has access to the upload button for transcripts. Please watch the video I previously posted to understand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1AYyyzEZxE.
Unless your high school has had many admits to US colleges, the lack of a high school profile could adversely effect your acceptances, as a college Admissions Officer will not understand the grading system, GPA, and course rigor of your high school.
First, we have an English Teacher who is the school counselor; any student applying to US colleges assign him. However, he has no access to my transcript, and therefore I brought an original copy from the school administration that was signed by the school principal (not by the counselor himself; our school’s standard transcript has no room for him to sign) and delivered it to my counselor, and he told me that he was going to upload it.
And regarding the school profile, how should I make one. It would be very unfortunate to adversely affect my admission by something that is out of my hand. I have read a lot about what the counselor should do and informed him. However, a school profile is something I am not authorized nor have access to the school’s data to make.
What country are you applying from?
Saudi Arabia
Your chances are slim-to-none applying from Saudi Arabia, no matter what your stats. I posted this on another thread of yours, maybe you didn’t see
There is one (1) student from Saudi Arabia at Harvard who is either a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. That means that Harvard admits, on average, one student from your country every four years (1 every 4 years). Those are terrible odds, even if you have a perfect GPA with perfect test scores. I imagine it’s the same at the rest of the ivies.
If your high school doesn’t have a profile, then you should NOT create one. If Harvard has an interest in you, the’ll contact your guidance counselor for more information. Best of luck to you!
Actually, I am an Egyptian, and 7 Egyptians are there right now, which is about 2 per year. Putting into context the number of applicants, which I think is no more than 15-20 per year, the 2 per year are quite good odds.
By your last line, do you mean that since my odds are not strong, I should not put enough time into something that won’t benefit me much, or do you mean that it is normal for schools not to submit school profiles? If you mean the former, then I would dedicate a great portion of my time to do the profile, even if my chances are very low. If so, then would you kindly inform me on how to construct a school profile, and if I am authorized or no to make one. If the latter, then that’s great news.
Bottom line, even if my probabilities are even 0.01%, it is still not zero, and I would gladly dedicate time to raising it to a 0.015%.
First off, for the purposes of admissions if you’re applying from Saudi Arabia your application will be “lumped together” with all other students from Saudi Arabia, even though you are Egyptian. For admissions purposes, you would have to be applying from Egypt to be “lumped together” with other students applying from Egypt.
Secondly, if your high school has not had one acceptance to Harvard then your high school is not on Harvard Admissions radar, so it’s going to be doubly difficult to get their attention.
Lastly, virtually all high schools in the US have high school profiles. I’m not certain about international schools. FWIW: Harvard has been burned in the past by an accepted student that submitted false Information to gain admission (Google Adam Wheeler Harvard) so they no longer trust any school related information submitted by students – including a high school profile written by students. I meant what I said – if Harvard is interested in you from your application they will contact your guidance counselor. There is nothing more for you to do.
Well, I think I would just ask my counselor to do one and relax. There seems pretty much nothing I can do…
Thank you very much
