Hello. I was wondering if sending my transcripts after the application deadline would be ok. The counselors need to approve of the transcripts from our high school and the high school is closed over the break and while I shouldve done it before the break I didn’t get to. Im applying to schools like Rice and Cornell and I was wondering if they would still accept my application as complete if i submit my transcript after the date. Thanks
At my school, students with applications due over the break were told to request transcripts BEFORE break so they could be sent out. The deadline for Jan. 1 transcripts was on Dec. 21, since school is closed over break. This is too important to simply “not get to”.
Some schools may be flexible (as long as all materials the student was responsible for were sent on time) but other schools may not be.
Most schools are flexible with materials that the student isn’t responsible for, but other schools are not (UMich, for example).
With Rice and Cornell, they can arrive after the application deadline; I cannot answer for the unspecified “schools like” them.
Oh ok I was wondering also if JHU would also be willing to accept transcripts after the deadline? I don’t know how strict they are about the transcripts. And yes, I should’ve done it before the break just didn’t because my whole list wasn’t finalized.
You are also OK if transcript arrives after app deadline for JHU. Generally you should be fine anywhere with a college that has an early Jan app deadline as long as you get the transcript sent as soon as you can next week. A well known “secret” is what colleges actually do when the application itself is timely but some supporting materials for regular admission, such as a transcript or test scores, do not show up. About late Jan or first part of February, the college notifies you of the missing items and tells you that you must get them in promptly if you want to be considered for admission. In other words, you get a second chance to comply. Colleges do that both because they really do want you to be considered and because they know that sometimes items that have actually been sent are just lost (sometimes by the college).
