Hi, my first and second semesters of college I did really bad. I had my priorities really tangled up with work, school, and basically I ended up just throwing away money. I have 4 W's and 3 F's and a D. I was recently re-admitted on academic probation for the summer semester. I am retaking the classes that I got F's and a D's to replace those grades. I've had a dream for a long time to go to UT so my goal is to retake the classes with the F's and the D, attend UTSA for the summer, spring, fall, and get 30 or more transferable hours and get close to a 4.0 GPA. My question is how badly do those grades look on your transcript ( the old ones) and how greatly are W's looked upon when it comes to transfer students?

Well here's the deal... your grades look horrible at this point. W's look horrible considering your other grades it is basically just saying you were failing the courses but managed to drop your class in time. The W's aren't put into your gpa but they are taken into consideration.

As of right now your chances at UT are slim to none because of your horrible grades, that being said.. an upward trend in grades is extremely important. Go to UTSA another two years and get ALL GOOD GRADES and I think you will have a competitive chance at UT. Just remember you have to change your lifestyle competely, you are not going to afford more than one B+.. you need close to all A's and I think you'll have a chance. Good luck, if you put the work in you can do it.

Thanks alot for the advice. It gives me hope and even more desire to get excellent grades.
