Transfer admission to UT for UTSA

Hi, my first and second semesters of college I did really bad. I had my priorities really tangled up with work, school, and basically I ended up just throwing away money. I have 4 W's and 3 F's and a D. I was recently re-admitted on academic probation for the summer semester. I am retaking the classes that I got F's and a D's to replace those grades. I've had a dream for a long time to go to UT so my goal is to retake the classes with the F's and the D, attend UTSA for the summer, spring, fall, and get 30 or more transferable hours and get close to a 4.0 GPA. My question is how badly do those grades look on your transcript ( the old ones) and how greatly are W's looked upon when it comes to transfer students?

As somebody who was accepted as a transfer student to UT-Austin having withdrawn a class, I can tell you that they do accept people with Ws. :)

However, having said the above, I would say that your circumstances are unique and require additional explanation. UT-Austin gives you plenty of opportunities to write during the application process; take advantage. Your GPA has gone up, so the trend is positive, and that's what they want to see.

I wouldn't worry too much. Keep the grades up. It's never to early to start thinking of how you would explain your early mishaps.
