Transfer Advice: UCI vs UC Davis (Pre-med)

Hello,

I am new to college confidential and I have a question. I have been accepted as a transfer to UCI and UC Davis. I am a pre-med student right now with about a 3.4 GPA. I’ve briefly visited both campuses only to get a general feel. I am seeking advice on what school you think I should go to and why. Is one more synonmously prestigious than the other? Is one better for pre-med than the other? Are there better oppurtunities at one than the other? What are the people like, how is the overall social vibe? What is the overall college dynamic/culture like?

Just for reference, I live in so. cal so I know what good weather feels like  and what to anticipate at UCI. IDK about Davis if its the same. Also, I am vegan so if one place has better food than the other let me know!!!

Also, I need to take a full sequence of O-chem and Physics, idk if this impacts where I go. Also, I maybe possibly interested if I went to UCI to change my major to Human Biology because it interests me a little more and I think it might suit me better for my pre-med endeavors.

Here is some information about if this helps:

UC Davis
Major: Global Disease Biology
My impression of location: Loved the campus and the town surrounding it. It felt like a true college town.
-Has an internship that I am interested in through their medical school where I can see patients and give basic health advice and treat them for basic things.

UCI:
Major: Public Health Sciences
My impression of location: Liked the ocean climate but never saw where the beach was. The campus feels like a concrete jungle with little to no true nature.

Any info/advice helps. Thank you!

I have nothing useful to add but Davis has a lot of vegan options for food! I would go with Davis based on your description but I think they’re the same based on ranking etc

Nice name. I’d say it’s a toss-up tho when you’re talking about both in terms of prestige, and as a pre-med myself I wouldn’t go to a school just because it’s more prestigious. Apparently med school adcoms care little for the prestige of your school, they just want a high gpa, mcat score, and ECs. Tho I understand we all say that and still care at least a bit about prestige, it’s not like I picked UCLA without considering prestige as a factor. As far as switching to bio you gotta reachout to an admissions counselors to gauge your chances, bio is impacted at almost every UC so it’s not always easy to switch to it.
I don’t attend UCI but I used to live right next to the school and hung out with a lot of friends that were students there. Irvine is a beautiful city that is one of the safest cities in the US but it’s not exactly the most “socially alive” setting. Things close really early and there are no bars/club, and if you wanna have go out at night, you gotta head 20-30 mins out. Newport beach is really close to it tho which is nice, tho I’m not much of a beach person myself. Honestly, for a person such as myself, who doesn’t care too much for night-life/partying and putting 100% focus onto school Irvine is a great place to be. You can still go out if you want to cuz there are things nearby, but it’s not a loud, bustling place to be in. If you’re the same then you’d like it in Irvine as well. I can’t speak for Davis cuz I’ve never been but I heard it’s centered around an amazing college town.

UPDATE: I decided on Irvine. I am staying with Public Health Sciences. We’ll see how it goes
