Transfer Advice!

Earlier in the year i visited duke, loved it, but i knew i had absolutely no chance at admission so i didn’t even bother applying.

Duke would have been my #1 by far, and is. I want to apply to transfer to duke in March 2016 - is there anything y’all would recommend i should do now as a graduating high school senior going into the summer before my freshman year at college and during college?

Like besides retaking my SAT, taking subject tests, and getting a high college GPA.

btw i don’t mind retaking standardized tests - as long as its for duke

and yes i know how difficult transfer admission is :frowning: But i will move heaven and earth to receive and acceptance letter from them.

ALSO, would it be smart to register for summer credit courses at Duke?

Getting in as a transfer is tougher than as a freshman. Have you thought about a gap year and then reapply?

my high school gpa is not close to duke’s stats. I have a 3.5 W gpa. so even if i took a gap year i would get denied. I was hoping to maybe go to college and get close to a 4.0gpa and then apply as a transfer. If it helps i do know someone who graduated from duke that is willing to help me. He has donated a lot of money to duke in the past, but I’m not sure how much his letter of recommendation would help me

Ask him whether he has some connection with Dean of Duke. If he does, then his recommendation would be helpful, I guess.

Just accepted earlier this month as a junior comp sci major. With so little time as a sophomore applicant I would recommend loading up on courses and getting As in all of them and ensuring you have really good letters of rec. Your essays should be very specific on what you like about Duke

^ Just wondering what was your essay about? (not that i would copy you I’m honestly just wondering)
