Hello everyone,
I’m an incoming freshman attending a SUNY for CAS economics. I want to become an accounting/finance major so I plan on transferring to a business school after my first year.
I would like to transfer to top-tier schools (especially NYU Stern) but since admission is very competitive, I was wondering if I had a better chance by transferring into NYU CAS and try to transfer again after my sophomore year?
If anyone with experience or knowledge could give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Transferring to NYU CAS in the hope of making an internal transfer later on is just crazy thinking.
Why didn’t you apply to Stern to begin with? Your best chance of admission would be as a freshman applicant. It isn’t too late to take a Gap Year.
If your SUNY doesn’t offer your major, then you probably need to think about taking a Gap Year and applying to the SUNYs that do.
I applied to Stern but I was rejected and the school I will be attending was the best for me at the moment. Are there any other options besides taking a gap year?
Since you didn’t get into Stern this time around, unless something changes drastically, you probably won’t be admitted as a transfer. So, if your SUNY does offer the major that you want, then your best option is to start there this fall with the intent to stay through graduation. After a year or so, you can re-consider the idea of transferring and who knows, you might get lucky and get into Stern.
If your SUNY doesn’t offer the major that you want, and you would have to transfer out in a year or two, then you need to think about a gap year so that you can apply to places that do offer your major. If it would be less expensive to attend your local community college instead of this SUNY that could also be an option for your first year or two before transferring elsewhere.
Ok thank you I will keep your advice in mind.
