Im currently going to a college that i really don't like and really want to transfer...but because im the king of procrastination i didnt get my act together in time to find the right school to transfer to by the time fall 2008 deadlines rolled around. But i still want to transfer, so i was thinking about just going back to the school I hate and transferring halfway through the year...Do you think that is reasonable, do people do this? Im just worried that before i know it im going standing at my college graduation accepting a diploma from a school I didn't like. Any suggestions...

First, not all schools take spring transfers, so you'll have to check their websites. Second, I think (other posters help me here) that transfer spots for next spring were already offered in the round of decisions that just finished. I'm pretty sure that when you apply this next year, it will be for fall 2009 and spring 2010.

Colleges that have spring transfers usually have a separate application date for the spring semester. My daughter was accepted to her school and transferred last spring. She actually liked that better than transferring in the fall. She feels like she kind of "slipped in", the orienation for spring was one day and low key. The only disadvantage (for her school) was that she couldn't register for classes until orientation which meant that a lot of classes were already filled, but she managed to get a schedule together.

I'm in the same boat as you. I didn't realize quite how unhappy I was with school until after fall transfer deadlines. I've found quite a few schools with spring transfer deadlines in November.

Is it common? Hell yes. Remember, transferring any time during before the start of your third year is normal as far as transferring goes. And since many schools, from the elite to your local public accept spring transfers, you'll not be all that limited in terms of options. True, you might personally find it strange to change schools in the middle of the year. But, if you dislike where you are, there is no reason to delay such a standardly timed transfer. After all, it isn't as though you're transferring late enough that it would delay graduation.

I've been in the same boat and last year I actually worked on transferring to Northeastern for the upcoming fall semester but financially it didn't make sense to leave. Now that I declined acceptance as a transfer I'm still a little hesitant to return to Dayton (where I currently attend). I have the same worry that I'll end up staying somewhere I don't want to be. The main issue I have is there really isn't much going on in Dayton, Ohio even though the school has a lot going for it. I would much rather be in a city like Boston or Chicago with tons going on does this really validate wishing to attempt a transfer once again?

I'm transferring somewhere (hopefully Cornell) next spring, although I have already completed 2 years (well...kind of, about a third was in HS and some of that won't transfer, so I am taking some more classes this fall).

It really depends on the school. My D and I are getting ready to leave on a trip to 3 schools, 1 of which had rolling acceptance and one had a deadline of June 30th; she COULD get in and go by Fall '08.

She also hated her school, (1.5 years) went to Community College (which she liked LOTS better than her first school) but decided she is ready to move on... If she gets accepted for Spring, she is just going to work a semester and save money.

But again, the point of the post... It really depends on the school... VOIDOFORM...have you checked into your local community college?
