Transfer after 1 year in CC risks

I just started my first semester at RCC (Rockland Community College) 2 months ago. I was enrolled in their nursing program but I found the way of cramming pre requisites and nursing classes to be too difficult, plus I was still a little indecisive of doing nursing so I dropped out of it. Right now i’m taking A&P 1 and gen. psyc with like 2 one credit nursing classes. I’ve decided that I do want to give it my shot and getting a BSN and want to apply to Stony Brook and Binghamton for Fall 2016 as a sophomore.
I’ve seen so many sites tell me it’s possible and impossible to get in as a sophomore. There could be a chance I may have to send in my high school and SAT score, even though I did take some RCC classes in high school (and did well).
My high school gpa was an 86 (I don’t know what it is on a 4.0 scale) and my SAT score was a 1620. I don’t know if I’ll get accepted when they see those grades, even though I’m doing really well right now in the semester (-A and above).
Can someone tell me what you guys think if I have a shot at getting accepted and have any of you guys transfered into a 4 year school successfully after one year at community college?
Thanks :)>-

Good questions. Our minimum requirement for transfer admission is at least 24 completed credits – two full-time semesters – with at least a 3.0 GPA. That’s your baseline for most programs.

Nursing, however, is its own dog here at Stony Brook; you can’t get admitted to nursing until fall of your junior year; the School of Nursing is very selective, and has specific pre-requisite courses that you’ll need to take. You can take them anywhere, so a combination of RCC and Stony Brook will work. (As in, you do your first year at RCC, and your second year here.) But it’s still a separate application process to nursing, and getting in now (or in Fall 2016) is no guarantee of your admission to nursing for (in theory) fall 2017.

Hope this helps; let us know if you need more clarification.

Thank you so much for clarifying this! If I can’t get admitted into the School of Nursing until my junior year, how can I transfer into Stony Brook for my sophomore year? Would I need to pick a major to get accepted and then apply to Nursing at the official deadline?

Yes, but if you get into nursing later, your old major won’t matter. You could also apply undeclared if you only have one year of coursework in.
