Transfer after 1st yr?

I'm currently a freshmen at Duke University. Because of some recent health problems within my family, I want to go to a school closer to home.

Right now I'm only considering applying to Stanford.

How hard is it to transfer after my first year? Which would mean I apply after the 1st semester with only one set of grades?

I can only estimate my GPA, but I'm confident it would be above 3.7.

considering that the matriculation rate for Stanford freshman this year was way above the expected numbers, I'd imagine that they aren't looking to take many transfers, no matter how brilliant.

hmm well considering that you'll still be a freshman they'll look pretty heavily at your highschool creds and I guess seeing as you got into Duke they're probably pretty good. You probably have a good shot but remember the acceptance rate is ~5% for transfers!!

If you explain your reasons for coming to Stanford and pending your excellent credentials you may be able to get in despite the extreme selectivity. I'm really sorry you're in this situation and hope it works out.

will they request a high school transcript?

my GPA in high school was only a 3.5. My SAT was 2270

How much are high school stats and SATs weighted if you're transferring as a junior? Anyone know?

My guess is that by junior year they'll pay much more attention to your university GPA and less to your highschool creds.

imathriver I really don't know if they ask for HS transcripts but I do know that they will pay a lot of attention to your high school creds.

I saw that of the 20 people who were admitted last year, 11 were from community colleges. Now you said that they'll probably pay a lot more attention to your college record if you're transferring as a junior, but is sending in SAT score still mandatory? What else do you have to send in (recs, SAT II, etc.)?

They will ask for your high school transcripts.

Applying only to Stanford if you really need to be on the West Coast is a poor idea.
