i have been accepted to both chapman and usd as a transfer student… between the two schools, what have people heard?

dtransfer, I’m not sure how many transfer students choose to live on campus, but I can imagine that a some of them do. If you think about, Chapman might be as new to transfer students as it is to a Freshman. I personally don’t know the area and would want to live on campus until I learn the area. The transfers who do live off campus and are probably local.

Anyone else still stuck on Pending? Applied for Film Studies. Thanks!

Yep, still pending. I called today and they said they’re still going through transfer apps and a decision will be made soon. How soon? They wouldn’t say. I was told last week that all decisions would be made by tomorrow, but after calling today…it didn’t sound like that.

So…we’ll have to play the waiting game.

Received my official letter of rejection this morning - read unusually cold coming from a school of such high caliber. Basically told me that the committee “felt it was necessary to reject your admission request” and concluded with “good luck in all of your endeavors.” (all verbatim).

No “try again in Spring”, no nothing.

I thought it was a pretty callous letter from admissions, but then again, I’ve never been rejected by a college until now.

Overall, I’d have to say that my experience with Chapman’s admissions office has been a pretty dreadful one. It seems quite unprofessional to leave hundreds of students on the hook while they keep pushing back deadline dates, making it harder for those students to find housing on campus as well as financial aid funds. Very disappointing.

I wish the best of luck to those who still have a decision pending, but don’t get your hopes up this late in the game.

@matt119

Yep, I guess so. It was supposed to be mid-May, then end of May, then end of the first week of June and now, who knows? If only there was a way to hurry them up.

I’m getting kinda worried about housing since I’m an international student. And the more I think about it, the more I realize how much I want to get into Chapman!

@allwi100

Oh no, I’m really sorry to hear that. So what are your plans now?

Posted on Chappenings:

"This has been a very eventful year in the admission office at Chapman University. We received a record number of applications, increasing the total number by almost 35%.

After the admission spots were gone, very likable students remained and we placed these students on the waitlist in order to *hopefully find spots for them later. Many of the students that we admitted originally did in fact decide that Chapman is the school for them. Because a large percentage of our admitted population did want to attend Chapman, we have not been able to take many students off of the waitlist.

About two weeks ago the Admission team began making preparations to release most of the waitlist. This is true for the general Chapman waitlist, and the Film Production waitlist. Letters are going out today to many of these students who unfortunately we were not able to find space for.

Please know that this was the most competitive admission season Chapman University has yet experienced, and even spots on the waitlist were sacred ones. For those who are being removed from the waitlist, please see the transfer brochure located here and let us know if we can help with a transfer path for you.

For those few who do still remain on the waitlist, we will be in touch with you in upcoming weeks. Thank you all for your patience and we wish you the best."

Does this mean those still stuck on Pending have been waitlisted?

@madeforusc: my application says decision pending. but the admissions office is waiting for my transcript.

and i also sent them a email to see what was going on.

@stargurl93

Oh okay! I just realized that post was probably meant for the freshman applicants who got waitlisted anyway. Maybe I should send them an email too. THANKS!

My application was submitted and file completed in late February (it’s not like I just applied), so to still be waiting is torturous.

For the few of us that are still ‘decision pending’, I almost feel cheated. At this point, I wonder if we’re going to have a fair shot at being admitted. Forget about the wait-lists,what about the other applicants?

Any transfer student that applied to more than one school has either declined or already put down a deposit. I only applied to Chapman because I was sure I had a solid application, but the longer the wait…the less solid it becomes. If that makes sense

@ allwi …

I was rejected from Chapman back in '07, but do not remember the letter being that cold. It was more along the lines of the magic 8-ball quote,“Sorry, Try again later.”

I completely agree with you about leaving students on the hook. It’s changed my view of the school a bit.

I wonder which majors at Chapman are filling up fast, and which ones aren’t filling up fast enough? Does anyone have an idea?

I agree with you. I sent an e-mail letting them know that I have job interviews to go to and decisions to make. My life can’t hinge on their response so I’m treating it like I didn’t get in. I can’t seem like a flake to potential employers when even interviews are hard to get…of course no response from the school. Even better, the admissions counselor I spoke to originally is on vacation for three weeks. Maybe I’ll just wait a year and go to CSUF. I don’t want to be treated this way and pay exorbitant tuition too.

ETA: I heard that CSUF is waiting until the first week of class for some decisions so maybe this is the lesser of two evils. I don’t know, I only applied to Chapman. Options are limited for working students here once you are past JC’s.

@everyone: when you log into webadvisor, do you have your program evaluated?

@matt119 & workworkwork

I feel the same way! If you check out the Chappenings blog, it seems that they have other priorities besides looking at our applications.

@stargurl93

Yep, my program evaluation has been completed too. I don’t think it means anything though!

Still, it does look like a fun team to intern at. :|

Still ‘decision pending’. I called Chapman Admissions and apparently next week all decisions will be made. I didn’t apply late so have no idea why it’s taking so long. Whether good or bad, I would just like some closure.

@everyone: did any one got a letter from Chapman this week?
I got a postcard stating that they are reviewing my application.

@matt119: I think what is going on is they had sent out most of their decisions and they are waiting for people that are accepted to say that they are not attending Chapman and give us the spots instead. I would also like to know also. What is the letter of your last name?

@stargurl93

Are you sure that’s the case? It’s kinda scary for us if it is! From what I’ve read, most transfer applicants haven’t heard from them yet. I think they might still be focusing on waitlisted freshman applicants and have left us right till the end. It’s just a theory though!

@ stargurl … I thought about that scenario too, but discredited it as being crazy thoughts caused by torturous waiting I highly doubt that something like that would be true; however, I wouldn’t altogether dismiss it either.

Besides myself, the few transfers that had applied (and posted on this forum) have all been given decisions. So, I’m not sure how many of us are still waiting or why. My last initial is C, but shouldn’t matter because applications aren’t sorted alphabetically. My application materials were all sent in February, but all documents weren’t officially complete on web adviser until the 16th of March.

I haven’t received a letter, but over the phone the admissions rep said that my application was “in-review”. However, he couldn’t make any official statements regarding when decisions would be made. So, take that for what it’s worth.

I’ve also been waiting for my transfer application to receive a response; it’s still pending. My girlfriend and I actually applied to Chapman University at the same time. She got her decision weeks ago, despite them losing some of her transcripts and her having to resend them. I’m not sure how things work internally over there, and why there was such a difference in response time between her application and my own. Her academics are a little better, but the difference is not very significant. Maybe our applications just wound up on different desks?

I understand that their department is likely overwhelmed this year. I do respectfully think they could have been a little more communicative with transfer applicants, however, especially as the June 1st “intent to enroll” deadline has passed. I’ve called about it and they said not to worry about any deadlines that have passed before they’ve finished looking over your application.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear on their decision.
