Transfer Application - Credits/Time Limit

Hey everyone,

I had a quick question that, what is the maximum no. of semesters or credits that a transfer applicant can have while applying for MIT ?

The maximum number of semesters is 5 – that is, by the time you enter MIT, you cannot have completed more than 2.5 years of college elsewhere.

Isn’t there an exception if all credits earned by the time of transfer are either from lower division coursework or from a junior college ?

I’m kind of confused at the moment, lets take an example here
Like student A may take 12 each semester & have 60 CH at the end of 5 semesters, while student B may take 18 each semester & have 90 CH. And then we have optional summer classes as well. Isn’t there any limit on the number of credit hours ?

I don’t know that there’s a credit limit. IIRC, the previous wording on the website was that transfers could not be within 1.5 years of graduating from their original institution – that is, instead of specifying that students had been in college less than 2.5 years, it was specified that students must have more than 1.5 years to go.

When in doubt, certainly email the admissions office, but my suspicion is that the above is still true.

Thanks mollie. I guess I have to call the admissions office.

So confused, can’t even register for killer summer classes hahaha :D
