Transfer Berkeley -> UCLA

Hello everyone,

Been lurking for over a year now, but first time posting.

I am currently a freshman at Berkeley in the College of Chemistry. Berkeley has ended up not being the right thing for me--I'd like to transfer to UCLA, preferably as soon as possible.

I was accepted to UCLA as well as UCB when I originally applied, but, obviously, I matriculated at UCB. Does anyone have experience with this kind of transfer? Is there any way I could transfer at the end of this semester at Berkeley (in time for UCLA's Winter Quarter)? I'd like to move as quickly as possible.

Also, does anyone have any opinions on chemistry at UCLA vs Berkeley? I understand there will be some loss of prestige, but Berkeley really isn't the place for me.

Thanks in advance!

sorry, just an interested applicant...why was berkeley not the right place for you?

UCLA only accept students for Fall quarter matriculation and Engineering is the only school that accepts Winter transfers. I'm not sure if UCLA's Engineering school still has this policy so you better find out from the department. You're better off finishing your 1st year at Cal then petitioning to transfer. One recourse would be to start attending community college after leaving Berkeley but you have to earn 60 semester units by the time you matriculate into UCLA. Another alternate would be taking UCLA classes via UCLA Extension through concurrent enrollment.

Talk to an academic counselor and ask about inter-UC transfer policies.
