Hello,

Just a quick question: what are the chances for a successful transfer between residence halls? My offer is for a Unit 1 triple (in suite) and I really dislike the thought of living together with 2 other people. I am a transfer student, if that makes any difference. Also, could anyone tell me if it is possible to terminate the contract without having to pay the entire fee for two semesters? It will "only" cost 2*$300 - one for accepting the contract, the other one for terminating it, plus the amount of time lived in the residence hall, right?

Thank you.

Transfers are very low chances. But still possible. Heck I just got one the other day that I took. I would say think about it though because a suite setup is different than a normal triple and might actually be pretty good. I don’t know how the termination goes though

I transferred to a Unit 1 triple from mini suite

^because you are a fall admit. Transferring from one dorm type to another is a lot easier for fall admits over everyone else

^ No, he got it easy because he transferred from mini suite to a triple. Mini suites are highly demanded and rare for freshmen. Not many people like to be in triples…

^ No he got it because he was a fall admit.

Freshman year, I had an FPF friend get a Unit 2 minisuite double that he could not afford. He asked to be transferred to a regular double/triple and they wouldn’t do it. He ended up trading with another friend of mine (who had a Unit triple) pretty late in the game because the Res Hall people wouldn’t do ****

It’s still not that likely to get a transfer though

Private trading of dorm is allowed? Because in theory it is subletting, which is stated in the terms of conditions as prohibited. Is it one of those things that people just do anyways without much attentions from the administrators? And how often does trading dorms happen?

if you and a friend want to trade dorm contracts, you can, but you need to email the reshall@berkeley.edu people about that (i think that is the email, but you should double check).

You can try to trade a Berkeley contract for a private contract nor can you give your contract to someone else like that.

I emailed Res Hall about something similar to that. My friend got a Unit 2 triple and most likely will decline it and live off-campus. I asked if I can have that assignment if my friend agrees to it. They said no and it will be offered to the next person waiting for an offer. Weeeeeakkk.

^ How is that weak? You can’t just skip ahead of people because you know the person who’s giving up the offer.

Thank you. I will email reshall for further verification.
