Transfer Chance

Ok so I was in the CAP program my freshman year at UTSA. I did not meet the CAP requirements due to excessive partying and not really focusing on school. I ran out of money and decided to return home to go to cc. Currently im trying to transfer to A&M and im wondering what my chances are?

My GPA at UTSA: 2.444
My GPA at Lonestar Community College: 3.66 (I've made all A's but apparently since it was the school I had my Dual Credit at they calculate those into my gpa which I had 3 B's in from almost 3 years ago!!)
My Cumulative GPA: 3.06
My Cumulative GPA after Spring 11: 3.29

I'm also the treasurer of the accounting club here and I am in PTK.

I'm applying to the Mays Business School as a Finance major for my first choice and to COLA for economics as my second choice. I know I won't get into the business school but im hoping that they will let me into COLA. Hopefully they will look at the upward trend I've had from adding extracurriculars to making all A's on the last 36 hours. I know my GPA should be higher but there was no way to do so. I tried going to the dean of my school to get him to let me take more than the max load of 18 hours but he wouldn't permit it. So be realistic. What are my chances? What should I maybe do to help them?

I’m gonna do this quick, I have friends waiting on me in the living room. lol

I hate to say this, especially if you applied already. Econ doesn’t consider transfers at all if they put Econ as their 2nd choice. I learned this the hard way last Fall. Sorry…

how do you know?
I’m planning on majoring in both so I don’t know why they would not accept me into the school.

I hate to say it, but like I said, I learned from experience last fall. I applied as a transfer with business as my 1st choice and econ as my 2nd choice. I had a 3.9, got rejected from Mays because it is hard to get into and Econ as well, because they don’t consider 2nd choice. If you apply with Econ as the first choice, essentially you are a lock if you have most of the classes done and a 3.5.

you know because you have read the [Admissions Criteria](http://admissions.tamu.edu/transfer/gettingin/criteria/default.aspx) and you have done your research before you fill out the application

derek, did A&M put you into Gen Studies or did they outright deny you for admission completely?

Honestly, I think they did “try” to fit me into Gen Studies. Only, it wasn’t until early July and I think it was proabably full or something because I didn’t make that either. Lol

well i find that ridiculous to deny someone just based on putting it as there second choice. whats the point of putting one then?

it is one way to know if someone has researched and read the application policys of the college. As if to say, only serious applicants need apply. There are only a few majors/colleges that are this way and they are some of the most competitive. It is just a tool to make sure only thoes who truely want to be in business, economics, architecture - will be in the major.
this is another area where you can blame the top 10% admissions.
there are a few areas that do not allow double majors too - and business is one of them. They have waiting list for business majors - so they will not allow you to double major in something else. Just odd ball rules for specific colleges. Minor is a different thing - but my daughters friend wanted to do visualization in the college of architecture - and business. Neither business or architecture would allow it as both are very coveted majors and having one student taking two slots isnt fair to thoes on the waiting list. So there you go.

well im not applying to double major right away that is just my goal. I changed my application for economics as my first choice and business as my second so based on that now what do you think are my chances on getting in.

I was told last semester by the Econ advisor, that essentially, you have a strong shot if you’ve completed Math 1325, Micro and Macro and have a 3.0.
