Transfer Chances(To UVA)

Current School: George Mason first year
Transfer to: UVA
High School GPA: 3.8-3.9
College GPA: 3.98 first semester
EC's- not really any but planning on doing something this semester
SAT's- 1310/1600 -1810/2400 Math SAT-770
Reading and Writing SAT's are kinda bad but dont remember exact #'s

I am applying to the engineering department for UVA for Fall of second year, what are my chances from this?
Thanks ahead for any replies

Ouch on the SAT scores. 500 Writing and 540 verbal just don’t look good no matter how you swing it (assuming you mean you got a 770 on the math section of the SAT I). I feel your pain, though, I got 580 on the math and perfect and near-perfect scores on the other sections. Aside from that I’d say your chances would be pretty good, especially if you took a challenging non-science or math course this semester.

Ya The SAT scores really hurt me a lot. I’m thinking of taking the next SAT to raise scores but I missed the registration date so probably gonna go for stand by testing. I took economics and communication but I don’t think those classes would really count. I’m taking English composition this semester though.

Wow, *doesn’t look good. Also, yes, I would retake it if I were you - but only if you think you can significantly raise your score. Do make sure you get an A in your English class, though.

I took the SAT again new scores are. Math -800 Reading-570 Writing -580
Anyone - Let me know how my chances look now

Are you an in-state student? And sorry, how do you have a 3.98 if you’ve only taken one semester’s worth of classes?

Ya Im in-state. I have a 3.98 because I got a A- in a 1 credit class.

How many credits do you have? I only ask because I don’t need to send your sat scores if you have 32 credits or more.

I will have over 32 credits, i took 17 last semester only 15 actually had GPA hours though and am taking 17. I though sat scores still played a major part unless you transfer after 2nd year.

I don’t know, it’s been awhile since I’ve looked at this, but i do believe if you have more than 32 credits, schools generally don’t want them.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. UVa is a state school. You’re SAT score is a 1950–that’s good enough. Just keep up the good grades at Mason, and submit a mid-term report with good grades. What classes did you take first semester and what are you taking now? I’m asking to gauge the difficulty of your course work.

First semester courses: General chemistry 1, Intro to computer programming, Public speaking, Intermediate Micro economics, Computer Ethics and Society, and a pass fail class Preview of Computer Science.
Courses I’m taking for Second Semester: General Chemistry 2, Object-Oriented Programming, Intermediate Macro economics, English Composition, and Calc 2

Gotcha…yeah, you should be fine… I would also send in an application to Virginia Tech, just in case.

I am also a transfer applicant to SEAS CPE and EE program.

HS GPA 3.7 weighted
SATs: 570 verbal, 730 math
ACT: 27 verbal, 35 math

College GPA: 4.0 (last semester) <–second year applicant
Looking at a 4.0 this semester, too (19 credits).

I didn’t apply last year because I thought my chances were way too low–does that hurt me?

And, I’m an in-state student.
