Transfer chances to UVA for second year?

Hellloo,

I am currently a freshman at George Mason University, thinking about applying to UVA for next year. I got a 3.47 my first semester with 4 courses: A+ in Government 101, A in Religion 101, B+ in Astronomy 112, B in Comm 100.
Next semester I'm trying to finish getting all my gen-eds out of the way, so my classes are gonna be Bio 104, Psych 100, Hist 125, Lit 330, and Crim 100.
I'm on class council at GMU, I'm in a few clubs, and I played some intramural sports.

I was a full IB student in high school with a 3.8 or 3.9 GPA, 7 IB courses all four years and I received my IB diploma. SAT scores were kind of bad though... around 1900 all together, I think 1200 for reading and math.

A lot of extra curriculars, 4 years of varsity field hockey, NHS, NEHS, Beta Club, Key Club, President of Debate Team, Model UN, tutored elementary school kids after school for 3 years, etc.

Do I have any chance at getting into UVA as a second year if I apply this March?

I can’t advise on chances, but I do have 2 suggestions. HS guidance offices in the counties around GMU have reams of data on the GPAs & SAT scores of their applicants. Maybe there is an office at GMU that has similar data for transfers to UVA. You should contact UVA admissions and see what they will tell you and if they have any data on successful transfer applications. Check DeanJ’s posts on the UVA forum and her blog for anything she’s had to say about transfer applications as well.

I believe the class that started in September 2011 is larger than typical (yield was > than expected). I do not know if that translates into fewer transfer slots for 2nd years starting in Fall 2012. Good luck.

In the meanwhile, work to get your GPA as high as you can. If unsuccessful this year, try again next year if UVA is still your goal. Good luck.
