When is the optimum time to apply as a transfer student?

Disney club?

Yes, we’re a club centered around preparing students for the Disney College Program (an internship in Disney World). We also do Disney themed events on campus.

Oh, that actually sounds pretty neat. I thought it was just a fan club and was thinking “what, lol?”

I can’t know your chances, but definitely the best of luck to you!

Likely depends on what kinds of classes you’ve been taking. From the information you’ve provided, you would not have been very competitive for admission had you applied out of high school. If that’s the case, we generally recommend that students complete 2-4 semesters of college before applying to W&M as a transfer. Given your 3.8 your first semester, you may be eligible for Fall 2011 or Spring 2012. Again, the courses you’ve taken at college (last semester and this semester) would be helpful in order to address this question specifically.

Coalminerson: haha I get that a lot!

Fall semester:
Linguistics
Lit of the Italian Renaissance
Philosophy and Gender
Intro to International Relations
Freshman English

Next semester:
Statistics
Microeconomics
Elementary Japanese
Western Civilization to 1500
Intro to Comparative Politics or Art History

I also have 8 biology credits (b-) and 8 physics credits (b) from a dual enrollment program through my high school.

This is a pretty good selection of courses. There’s a nice mix of all the major subjects save science which you mentioned you have college credit for through dual enrollment.

You could certainly apply for the Fall 2011 but we will definitely be considering your mid-semester grades carefully as you’ll have only one completed semester of college course work at the time of application.

If you’re not admitted for the Fall 2011 but your grades and courses continue to progress on the track you’re on, you should have a good chance for Spring 2012. If you’re not admitted, our transfer dean will be happy to work with you in your fall course selection to help you continue on the path to becoming a competitive applicant.
