Transfer Chances

I hope everyone is doing well and staying positive throughout the Fall 2011 transfer process. I posted a couple chance threads last summer/semester, though at that point I was still in the planning phases and did not end up applying to a number of the schools that I was initially thinking of. So let me know what you think! Thanks. (Will chance back)

I've sent my application to the following schools:

UT-Austin (I'm a Texas resident)

Cornell

Georgetown

Northwestern

Grinnell

Fordham

NYU

Vanderbilt

Emory

George Washington

American

Wake Forest

Current Standing:
- Majoring in Political Science and Global Studies
- Want to transfer so I can major in all or a combination of: Middle Eastern Studies, Political Science/International Relations, and Arabic
- Want to work in intelligence or foreign policy law
- I attend a top 25 Regionally ranked LAC (they don't have any of the majors that I'd like to major in, and they do not have an Arabic program or an IR major that has any emphasis on the Middle East. This was a key point in my essays)

College:
- Earned Associates in the Arts in one year during high school with a 4.0 GPA and highest honors (63 credits)
- Completed 18 credits in the Fall of 2010 with a 4.0 GPA -- rigorous courses and Honor's program
- Inducted into Phi Thetha Kappa while in high school
- Had FOUR fantastic recommendations. 3 from current college, 1 from high school counselor (I know that many people say to just get two good ones, but these were really great)
- Extensive EC's. I'll post if it'll help.

High School:
- Transferred twice, but graduated with distinguished honors. School didn't rank or have Honors/GT/AP courses so I did heavy dual credit. 3.5-3.7 GPA UW, not much to say here.
- I had a disciplinary issue where I was dismissed at my first school, but I wasn't found of any wrongdoing. It was a pointless issue that just resulted in me transferring out, though they gave me the option to come back. It isn't on my record but I explained it in an essay on the CommonApp.
- Extensive EC's. I'll post if it'll help.

Financial Aid:
- EFC of 0. I understand I'll probably have to take loans out from a lot of these schools with the exception of Vanderbilt, Emory, and any other school with no-loan programs.
- Pakistani. Not sure if this counts as URM
- First generation student

Bump. Anyone?

Bump again. I’m applying to W&M and Brandeis as well. No one? :</p>

No it doesn’t.

You must have a pretty good idea about your IS transfer to UT??

Your apps are in and you’ll have results in a couple of months. Chances? You don’t need no stinking chances!! ;)

A 4.0 GPA with 60+ credits should practically guarantee you acceptance to UT. I won’t speculate about the other schools.

Thank you all for the replies.

@entomom

Thanks for clarifying! I guess I’m not a URM then :P. Ah I know, but it feels good to have some reassurance. I’ll know about American in about 4-5 weeks, so I guess they’ll all begin rolling in after that. I feel if American accepts me, despite my alleged high school infraction, other schools may accept me as well.

@contramundum09

UT’s great and I would be grateful to get in anywhere, but I’d really like to go to one of the other schools on my list. I’ve just been so used to everyone in my family going to UT and I want to do something different. My brother did Business Honors, sister did Natural Science honors, and then I’ll be doing Liberal Arts Honors. I just want to do something… different. :D.

Thanks again!

Looking good! What did you score on the ACT/SAT?

Thanks bra’h.

I took the SAT’s back in high school in 2009 and got a ~1200/1900 (CR+M/CR+M+W).

I’m hoping the amount of credits I had will outweigh the SAT’s, even though I’ve been out of high school for just about six-eight months.

A 1900 should suffice for many of the schools you listed. Good luck!

Good luck with Vanderbilt and Northwestern, dude.

Thank you and likewise.
