Transfer Chanes: NYU, Columbia, UCBerkely, UMich, Penn

Okay, let's try this again. I'll keep it simple.
1st semester GPA: 3.53 (In the honors program at the University of Pittsburgh)
Internship coming up this semester. Lining up another summer long internship. Will attempt to raise that GPA even higher hopefully.

Major?

I'll only speak of Cal since it is the one I'm familiar with the most. Considering you are OOS, it will be very difficult to transfer into their programs with low admission rates like pol sci, psych, engineering, etc. (check their transfer catalogue for the departments with low admission rates and see where your major falls into). If you're considering to transfer into Haas business, your chance is at most 1%, especially since your GPA is considerably lower than their 3.81 average. Also, they have had the tendency to recruit mostly people from the California, mainly CCCs and Cal/other UCs. However, if your major is in the humanities/arts division, I think you have a 30-40% chance.

It's worth a try as you never know what will happen.

Forgot to add, I'm a business major and will declare finance.

might not want to do haas then... it has like 4 courses in finance for undergrads

Hmm, I don't really mind the courses, I'm more focused on it being an exceptional school that I can go to get an MBA after from as well. But since you say I have a 1% chance I'll save my application fee lol. But I seriously don't know where to go. All I know is I have to get out of here.

Any reason? I have a friend in Pitt and she's loving it. Then again, she's a Physics major so not sure how different the learning process is.

I'd worry more about getting in some exceptional work experience then. You could consider more flexibility in major (econ or something similar).

Yury...Nothing is wrong with it, but you probably created about a doze "chances" threads...looks like you will keep creating these threads until you hear what you want to hear "you have good chances at all the schools you are applying to!"

With your stats, I would definately look for match schools. But again, apply as many reach schools as you can...you never know...

my transfer philosophy is this, if you have 10% chances of getting into one of these schools, apply to 10 and you might get into one hopefully...

nonetheless, you don't just want to apply to bunch of schools and hand in less than average applications...

If you apply to UMich liberal arts school then you might have some decent chances...

Apply to them...if you think you can get a cummulative gpa of around 3.8...I say, go ahead and apply! & work hard on your essays.

do you have any ECs in college?

The only EC's I have are internships lined up, anything specific I should look at?

It will be an uphill battle, but definitely apply :D.
There's no point applying to matches, since you are satisfied at your school and is looking for something better
Best of luck

What internship experiences do you have? when you say "lined up" do you mean, you have their offers already? do you mean you are thinking about applying? or are you currently interning? or you've interned somewhere before?

If you indeed had internship experiences at reputable firms, definately, you should write them down.

Thinking about interning or scheduled interviews or offers don't matter and they are silly to write about as your ECs since you didn't even experience yet...

I mean I landed them and will start them very shortly.

so anyone else?

if coming to a big city is your dream...why don't you look at Boston University, Rutgers-New Brunswick, Fordham, Pace, etc...

i think you might have decent chances at those schools though...

Thanks, the reaosn i wont g to pace is because I couldve gotten in with like a 2.0 and the other schools do not appeal to me whatsoever. I've met kids who attend NYU and they're definitely my type of social group. Not the rich snobby ones, but the fashion/metropolis types.

Boston University really is worth a look. It would be a good backup and it has academics that are comparable to UPiit Honors, but I wouldn't say they're better.

Yury, but you need to open up some options here...consider applying to BU and perhaps take one that is practically impossible...

I live in New York City and coming from Pitts would be hard for you.

I mean, I'd rather stay here than go to BU. The entire point of transferring isn't just to go to a higher ranked school, but to be happier. i would not be happy going to BU.

ok...that's totally up to you...to simply answer your question regarding chances at the above schools...regrettably, i must say you have little chances at all of them

i did not mean to offend you..rather i wanted to perhaps give you some other very good schools where you might have decent chances
