I am transferring schools and I don’t know which one I should attend. I had a really bad experience at my current school and I want to make the right decision. The two schools that I am considering transferring to are Umich and uva. I am from the Midwest and I loved the people there and for high school I moved to the DMV and hated it so that might be swaying my decision a bit. The dilemma is I love umich and I am sure that is the school that I would like to go to but they barley accept any of my credits. UVA accepts the majority of my credits and is closer to my family (they live in Maryland). The question is do I go to the school where I will finally get the college experience I want or do I go where they accept my credits and I don’t have to spend the remainder of college retaking hard classes I’ve already taken?
What about UVA makes you think your college experience there won’t be as good as at UMich? Start with that. Can you revisit UVA and see what you think?
How many credits would you need to repeat at UMich? Are they things that are necessary for your major (so re-reinforcing your learning wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea), or did you lose a bunch of Gen Eds as well? Will this mean an extra semester or year? How will that affect your family’s budget?
I’m originally from the Midwest and now live in the DMV. I totally get what you are saying about the differences between these two parts of the country. But UVA is not exactly in the DMV and could be a good change from wherever it is that you currently are.
I can revisit uva to see my opinion of the school changes but at umich I would need to repeat Calculus 1, Genetics, Intro to Biology, and Cell Molecular biology. In total, thats 14 credits and I am a biology major so they are all in my major. I don’t know if I will need to be in college for more than 4 years if I go to Michigan and my family is okay with me going to either.
