Transfer Credit on Transcript

Currently, I'm taking some summer classes at a state university. I know the grades I earn will not be factored into by GPA, but will still appear on my transcript. Is anyone familiar with how these grades will appear on my transcript? Will it show the university's name that I am currently at on my transcript or will it just say something like "transfer credit" with no specification of the university?

You will fill out a form to have those grades released directly to Vanderbilt at the state university. Sometimes there is a nominal fee. Get ready to do this for all your colleges. There is a section on the Common App where you are also supposed to chart all the courses you have taken for college credit and their locales but our sons turned the college credit lists from community colleges etc into an attachment on the Common App.

Just like you turn in your AP scores as sort of an honor system report on the Common App…but proof sent to your final college directly from the testers is required from your final college of choice as they determine credits awarded and placement boosts awarded from AP scores.

Whoops… I forgot to mention that I’m a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt. This is not pre-college coursework.

Did you prearrange for the classes? I am guessing you did, since Vandy requires that (or at least, they used to).

Transfer credit appears as “transfer credit.” There is no grade, and it does not factor into your GPA.

Yes, I prearranged for the classes. By the way, for prospective students reading this, it was an easy process, and all of the departments are very receptive to having students take summer courses at other institutions. However, Vanderbilt requires that you take summer school at a 4-year university.

When you say “no grade”, do you mean that my transcript will not show any letter grade at all or do you mean that it will just not be factored into my GPA?

Just email the registar’s office, they are really responsive and could answer this question for ya very quickly!

Yeah, haha I’m just going to do that.
