Transfer credits or no?

Hello everyone! I’m having a bit of a decision making problem at the moment… First off, I apologize for the length, this is a somewhat unique situation :P. I am technically in my second year of studies right now. I went to a 4 year university my freshman year, and the first semester of my sophomore year. My freshman year grades weren’t awful, but definitely no where near what I would want them to be, or what I would now be capable of getting. The average of those two semesters was about a 2.8. However, i was living with un-diagnosed ADHD and depression throughout my high school and college years, up until a few months ago. It became really bad my sophomore year in college, and caused additional problems such as severe anxiety, and I ended up failing every class. I am scheduled to request medical withdraw from that semester which I will likely get, but that would still leave me with the 2.8 GPA. I am now enrolled at a community college and am getting straight A’s. I am planning on getting up to a year’s worth of credits from the community college, but preferably half a year, and then transferring to a different 4 year school. Would this be enough to get into a top public school such as Illinois or even Michigan? Would the sudden improvement in grades give me any sort of advantage? Or would i have to ditch my freshman year credits and start from scratch? I would greatly appreciate any input! Thanks so much

You will need to send official copies of all of your transcripts when you apply for transfer.

Which credits transfer, and as what, is up to each university. You might be admitted, but find out that none of your previous courses apply at all toward your degree program. Or you might find that all of the courses with a grade of at least a C do apply. Unless the place you want to transfer to has a link on its website to a place that automatically evaluates your previous coursework, you won’d know which courses are likely to transfer and which won’t.

Go have a meeting with the Transfer Advisor at you community college. That person should be able to give you an idea about which courses from your CC are likely to transfer to the public universities in that same state.
