I'm wondering if someone can list exactly what is needed as a transfer student to apply to USC. Sorry if this is a bit vague of a question, I just want to make sure everything is submitted by the Feb 1st deadline.

Major: Music Industry Thornton School of Music

So far, I am in the process of submitting:

Application which includes essay, short answers, etc.

FAFSA (already submitted for 2011-2012)

CSS Profile

I also am waiting on 2 letters of recommendation from a professor and the owner of a recording studio that I interned with. Both of these should arrive today or tomorrow. Is there anything else that needs to be submitted to USC either before or after the deadline?

Hmm… I think you still need your official, sealed high school transcript showing proof of graduation. If you had high SAT scores, you can submit those (but if you would rather they not consider your SATs, it is generally okay not to submit, unless you have fewer than 30 units).

Submit tax return copies after you file (they don’t have to be in by Feb 2nd.)

Looks like you are just about set! Good luck!

(LOTS more info over on the transfer thread!)

P.S. I am not at all familiar with Thornton’s specific requirements - so be sure to double check if there are any additional materials they need!

You also need complete transcripts of EVERYWHERE you attended where you received grades (all colleges/Us, as well as HS). Try to get everything in on time or early. Please don’t be like my D & wait until 11:50 HI time to try to get it in to CA by their deadline ( get it in a few days early, to allow for glitches & computer crashes. If letters of rec are slightly late, I don’t believe the school holds it against you, but try to encourage your writers to get things in promptly (send them a thank you, explaining that you know how much their words will help your application).

I’d contact Thornton NOW to double-check on requirements to be sure you’re not missing anything. Good luck!

Thornton majors usually have a supplemental application/essay, which the USC general application typically “links” you to if you choose a Thornton major. I second the others - absolutely call Thornton.

In the meantime, there is some information here:

I don’t think letters of recommendation are required for transfer students, right? Is it ok if I am applying to USC as a transfer (to Marshall) without letters of recommendation?

I would call AND e-mail Thornton NOW, just to double-check. I’m not sure that letters of rec are REQUIRED, but I believe they can be helpful if you have someone who particularly has something they can add to your application. As I recall, D was undecided or a sociology major when she applied to transfer & she DID have one or two letters of rec because the instructors asked HER if they could write on her behalf.

Thanks. Do you know a lot about the transfer scholarships for the Marshall Business School? I am transferring with a 3.79 GPA, I have completed Financial/Managerial Accounting, Micro/Macroeconomics and Business Calculus I and II. I have a good amount of extracurriculars/volunteer work. I have completed 63 credit hours total (so I’m not sending SAT scores) and have written decent essays. Do you think I have any chance at a scholarship? Any info would be great.

MDG099, I don’t remember the answer to that question - definitely call Thornton to ask this or anything else. They are the definitive authority. (Or, to be safe, send to both.)

I’ve sent in electronically (through USConnect) and/or snail mail the following:

Application
FAFSA (2011-2012)
CSS Profile (Sent in through email as per Financial Aid office)
College and HS Transcripts (USConnect and snail mail)

So, am I missing anything??

Also, do I have less of a chance for full Financial Aid because I’m applying now instead of the Dec 1st deadline?

December 1st was the merit scholarship deadline.

ALL accepted students who submit the FAFSA and CSS/Profile on time Feb 2) and submit tax return copies (as soon as you are able) are considered for need-based financial aid regardless of whether they met the Dec 1st, Jan 10 or Feb transfer deadline. Good luck!
