I plan on attending Bentley University in the fall pending how much need based aid I receive …it Is my number 1 school and would love to attend however it is $62,000 should I receive no money which I would be unable or not willing to pay… How are school in dispersing money to transfers? (I’m going to be a junior should I attend) My mom is a single mother making about $42,000 a year… I make $0 and am curious what the bill could possibly look like…
When I did the net price calculator (typically accurate for freshman) The final cost before and loans was $13,000 dollars with the rest of the money being supplemented via grants…
I do understand transfers receive less in some cases none so I’m just curious if someone could give me a better outlook on what I can be expecting …
Thank you for your time and your help is greatly appreciated.
^ Yes. Most schools give their best aid to incoming freshman because that’s how they attract top students which affect the college rankings. Transfers are not in those calculations anywhere so get little. Since MOST schools don’t meet need, most schools will just gap you.
It’s very hard to figure out what “meeting 95% of need on average” really means since that is for matriculating students. Those who get lousy aid packages don’t end up attending which makes the stats look much better. A potentially better way to look at the CDS data is average FA award for freshman and for all students, and % of students getting FA.
Thanks i think more or less I’m just looking for an answer nobody is going to be able to give. I just have to sit back and wait and see what they give me … Thanks again for your time and input …its just I’m worried that money (63,000 a year) is going to get in the way of me following my dream
That doesn’t look very encouraging. The average need based award is $33K and only 1/3 of students had all their need met. What safeties do you have on your list that you can afford JIC?
I mean i have Fordham as well but ill be in the same boat… but after reading this don’t they give aid to a large majority of students who need it … i can almost guarantee i will fall under that category my mother makes 44,000 and is single and has a large mortgage ? I’m so lost on what i could be looking at
How much would YOU need? 94% of need met could mean they meet the need of the ones with the least need and gap the truly desperate students. Can you afford your current school? Don’t disenroll until you KNOW you can afford something else.
I would need about 30K to make it an option that is feasible and I can I use to have grant/scholarship of 28k tuition is 32K I commute , However they took away some grant money due to not having the available funds so now I have 19k in grants/scholarship so if I dormed id be paying 28k a year
Your mother’s mortgage won’t factor into legibility for need based aid except in that it will reduce primary home equity if a college counts that. Her monthly mortgage payment is her choice.
