Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I’m trying to finish the main commonapp transfer essay asap but am really worried about one thing. One of the main reasons why I’m transferring has to do with social aspects, it’s even one of the reasons why Im planning on switching majors. i know that a lot of websites giving tips on how to write transfer essays say not to talk about the social stuff as much, but what if the social aspects are one of the main personal experiences i have that also cause me to want to change majors?? it seems like its unavoidable to talk about.
you must mention it in that case. don’t worry about what those websites are saying. they will admire your honesty much more than anything else. best of luck!
It’s also one of the most common reasons students want to transfer. If it explains both why you want to transfer and why you’re switching majors, you should do more than just “mention” it - seems like it should be one of the main focuses of your essay. The trick is to do it in a way that doesn’t make you or your fellow students look bad.
that makes sense. my only other problem is that due to the word count i only have 650 words, and i ALSO have to focus on addressing why i want to transfer to that particular school as well. i emailed the college counselor for this school and according to him it should be a very big portion of the essay… so now im divided on how many words to spend b/w the “why transfer” part and "why this college"part…
also, what do you guys think style-wise the transfer essay should be like? the transfer essay should be more straight-forward reasons right, and should focus less on being “personalized”?
