Transfer Experience

Just trying to get an idea of what the adjustment was like transferring to Fordham University (specifically Rose Hill) after being at a different school? I attend a large state school and would also love if anyone could discuss going from that environment to the Fordham environment. Likes? Dislikes? Any help/opinions are greatly appreciated!

Are you transferring for sophomore year? Are you from the NYC area? Will you be dorming on campus? Why do you want to transfer? Will you be a day or evening student?

@HONOURSTUDENT Yes, I am currently a freshman at University of Wisconsin-Madison so I would be transferring for my sophomore year. I am from the midwest originally. Yes, I would try to dorm on campus! I want to transfer because as much as I do enjoy aspects of a large school–the spirit, the social scene, and the friends I have made, after a year in college, I now know what I really am looking for. I am majoring in marketing, but I would like to do so within the fashion industry so the fashion studies minor at Fordham really intrigues me. In addition, as much as I have always been in love with NYC (I have family there so I have spent a lot of time in the city), I was worried about being too far from my parents. After 7 months and being 5 hours from home by car, I truly feel as if I didn’t push myself and I think that I would be able to handle being on the east coast. I would want to be a day student. I still want a normal college experience. I do want to have a social experience, but I also am so tired of the excessive party scene here since it seems as if that is the only thing there is to do here. I want access to everything that New York City has to offer–internships, a million places to explore, and so many people to meet. I am just curious how hard/easy the adjustment is as a transfer student. Any information is appreciated!

Transferring should not be very hard at all socially. Many Fordham students participate in the bar scene but many also do not. If you live on campus you should have no trouble meeting people. The key is to join organizations. Many students transfer in sophomore year. Since you have visited the city and have family here, you should have no trouble adjusting. Remember though that Fordham is quieter than most State Colleges but still fun.
