I am currently attending a CC and am planning to transfer to Rutgers Business School-New Brunswick for Fall 2013 . By the end of the Spring 2013 semester I will have accumulated over 60 credits (64 to be exact) from my CC. My GPA will be at least a 3.5. What are my chances of being accepted?

The thing bothering me is...when I apply to Rutgers I will be one class short of having an official Associates Degree from my CC. I could squeeze in the class or I could just take it in the Summer (but as I understand Rutgers does not include Summer course work). So I will still be one class short if I decide to take it in Summer.

So do you think I should have the A.A degree completed or take the one class in the summer?

When are you applying? I’m planning on applying as well, and i definitely won’t be finished with my program. Spring semester i have 4 classes I need to fulfill. You say you’re one class short? How many credits you need to graduate!?!? 67?!

Well I took Calculus 1, Stats for business, and Health so that is where the extra credits came from. But I need them nontheless. The Calc and Stat class is an eligibility requirement for rutgers anyways.

I just need to take public speaking along with 3 other classes for the spring in order to successfully complete my A.A degree. However, I fell like taking the public speaking class by itself in the summer.

I do not know if I should have my degree completed or not. Does it really matter? I mean I have a lot of credits and a good GPA.

Under the NJ Statewide Transfer Agreement , my A.A degree would allow me to automatically complete the SAS core requirements. So I do not know if I need to complete all SAS requirements (under this special agreement) in order to be granted admission into the Business school.

By the way, I am not applying yet because the date has not been announced yet for transfer students. I don’t know when they are going to announce it.

The deadline for applying as a transfer student is February 1. You will not have your degree completed by then (neither will I). If it’s any help to you, i’m planning on applying after this semester is over.

As far as taking public speaking during the summer, from what I know, as i mentioned before, you shouldn’t take summer classes if you plan on transferring that fall. You can talk to your transfer department about this, considering you will have a degree, and yes, all credits should transfer.

Why not just take the 4 classes? What are you taking?

Remember: when they look at your transcript, they look at grade patterns, and course load.

I’m a full time student at PCCC in New Jersey, I currently have a 3.3 GPA that i’m trying to raise and I have 2 withdrawals. I’m graduating next May with my Associates Degree in Psychology. What are my chances of getting into Rutgers NB SAS?

I’d say you have a pretty good chance. According to my transfer adviser, Rutgers SAS school looks for a GPA of 3.3 and higher. Just make sure your essay is really nice. It was better to have withdrew than to fail the courses. Hopefully, you will not need to withdraw from anymore classes. Raise your GPA as much as possible. I just hate the fact that they need our high school transcripts.

Appetite4gnr, you and I have similar GPA’s. The business school is more competitive to get into, since it’s so popular, so the classes that we took will be examine more carefully. For instance, getting an A in public speaking and a B- in business stats will weigh differently than someone who received an B- in public speaking and A in business stats. It will also depend on the number of seats available.

On the plus side, since the new business building will be completed by that time, our chances of acceptance goes up. Also, having an associates degree will help us. It’s hard to chance us really. I’m not one to put all my eggs in one basket and will be applying to other schools as well. I suggest you do the same.

Thanks RU Hopeful, Just another 18 credits after this semester, I hope those 2 withdrawls don’t screw it all up, totally stressing…From what I keep hearing from everyone is that they don’t really care about your High School transcripts after your first two years at community college so you pretty much don’t have to worry about anything. Good Luck to you, hope we both get in.

Do you think Rutgers cares if I went to my CC on a part time basis versus someone who went full time? What I mean is would they possibly weigh down a part time students standing because the course load was lighter? But then again the student may have been working …

Hi! I am a transfer student from a CC too. My boyfriend transferred in to the business school, but his associates degree in Business was completed over the summer before (he was also one class short) and his GPA was above 3.7. He ended up leaving RBS for the school of arts and sciences. GETTING YOUR ASSOCIATES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! If you do not complete an associates degree (I know NJ CCs are mostly all accepted, depending on your individual coursework), then you will have to complete all of the core courses required for graduation at Rutgers. You will be subject to taking Expository writing classes, and many other classes that will just keep you there for much longer than expected, especially in the business school. Having your core completed by the associates degree makes everything so much easier when you get here because then you won’t have to worry about the core and you just need to tackle your major and minor (if you need to).

Does anyone know if Rutgers reviews final grades at other schools for the Spring 2013 semester?

For example if the class ends at my CC in May 05 , 2013…will the grades still be reviewed by them for admissions into the RBS-New Brunswick for Fall 2013?
