Just wondering if anyone here applied as a transfer student for fall 2013 and is still waiting to hear back. I applied the last week of February, I'll be a sophomore in the fall and I currently go to SUNY Oneonta. Last week, Binghamton asked for my mid term report which I'm pretty happy about because I'm doing well this semester. Anyone want to chance me? I applied as an English major with a concentration in rhetoric to Harpur and I'm currently a Mass Communication major at Oneonta.

HS Stats:
3.7/4.0 GPA (weighted)
SAT: 1000/1600 (1560/2400)- I wasn't a strong test taker in high school :(

College Stats:
1st semester: 3.07 GPA
I had 2 b+'s, 2 b's, and 1 c+
2nd semester so far:
I have 1 b-, 1 b, 2 a-, 1 a

In high school: I wrote for my yearbook, was inducted into an international writing honor society (Quill and Scroll), and involved with several other activities such as Key Club, volunteer work at my temple, and I've been a camp counselor every summer since 2008.
In college: I've been writing for two TV's show at the campus TV station, writing for the newspaper, and was offered to write for the Hillel newsletter (and I'm in Hillel).

Hoping to hear back this week and definitely attending Bing if I get in! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

Hi, Can I ask why you want to transfer out of Oneonta? It’s one of my kids’ first choice and I just wanted some opinions about the school and area. Thanx

I don’t know anything about SUNY Oneonta as a school, but I can give my feedback on the surrounding area. My brother goes to Hartwick College, which is basically right next door to Oneonta, and I personally dislike the town. Frankly, there’s hardly anything to do and the internship opportunities are probably not that good. From what I hear (Note: I’m not trying to offend anybody here, this is what my brother has told me) drugs like Meth are prominent up there and are slowly starting to spread to the schools. But drugs are everywere, so as long as your child has no intention to partake, then this shouldn’t be relevant. All in all, the surrounding area just seems depressing, but I’m from a suburban area, so it’s not surprising that I would dislike rural-type places.

Hi chocmilk,
My main reason for transferring out of Oneonta is I feel like the other students there aren’t as into their work as they are into partying and for someone like me who isn’t a big partier, I just feel that the school isn’t the right fit for me. I also feel that the academics at Binghamton are better but that’s just what I feel. I’m in no way putting Oneonta down and any school can be a party school so it’s what you make of it. I did do well at Oneonta but most if not all of the many friends I have made at Oneonta are either on academic probation or probation for drinking. It’s just not my scene. But I have been enjoying my freshman year here and I do still recommend Oneonta to people, but I wouldn’t come here if you don’t enjoy partying on the weekends because there really isn’t much else to do. As matth1995 said its a rural area and being from the suburbs on Long Island it’s definitely much different.

I just tried to see if I can log on and make a deposit and it’s letting me go to the page where you can make a deposit. Wondering if this is a sign of acceptance. Keeping my fingers crossed if it is. Also, if anyone is reading this and has been accepted, does the e-mail or the letter with the decision come first?

sam it seems that most people that were able to make a deposit on the site have been accepted per a previous thread. I applied in mid february and I emailed an admissions rep to inform about my admissions status and I didn’t get a letter until a week after the email.

hi collegesound,

i’m glad to hear that’s the trend. i applied mid-to late feb as well. they received my app on the 21st and all of my materials within that week and they received my mid-term grades last friday. so you’re saying i should get an e-mail first? some people told me that they sent out the letter first, but i find that weird since it’s easier to send the e-mail first. either way, i’m sure i’ll hear back this week.

sam i directly emailed an admissions rep from bing and asked him about my admission status and he told me I was accepted, then I got a letter about a week later.

If you can log in and pay your deposit then that means you were accepted… That’s how I found out I was accepted …The letter in the mail came first in a big Green envelope and an email came about a week after… Good luck everyone!!!

So, when I said I was able to log in to pay a deposit, I wasn’t talking about this site like everyone said: https://secure.binghamton.edu/newadmit/loginform.jsp. In fact, when I tried to log in there it had told me I wasn’t eligible to pay a deposit but then after failing to let me log in it showed me a link to the quickpay site where I was able to log in. However, I tried to log in again today and rather than being told I was ineligible, it said: “You are currently eligible to pay a deposit towards the following program(s): Fall 2013 Harpur Undeclared UG”. So, I am accepted? Because this is a new message and I’m feeling that they may have made a decision today and then changed it on the computer. I know transfer can’t view their decisions online and when I called the school yesterday to ask about my admission status they said a decision hadn’t been made yet. So, is it possible they made a decision on me today and I’ve been admitted. Still keeping my fingers crossed!

Yes, I strongly think you are. Congrats!

By the way, what happened to you initially happened to me too! I hope my outcome is the same as yours! Fingers crossed.

Hey 328
Good luck! I’m going to call them in the morning and ask what my admission status is

I just got my acceptance email! :)

Congrats @sam7194 !!!

Hi. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I sent in my application during the mid of Feb. They didn’t want any midterm report from me though. I wonder why. I can’t wait to hear back from them
