TRANSFER for fall 06

I am considering attending BU for the fall of 06, and I was wondering where other transfer students will be living next year, and what dorms are good to live in as a sophomore transfer student?

If you are considering attending in the fall then you should submit your application ASAP. The deadline was april 1st, but dont worry they are still accepting applications so go ahead and apply. As far as housing for transfer students goes, i was told by many of my friends that most transfers are put up at the Hyatt (which BU bought out to be used as dorms). When i brought this up at the admissions office while i was visiting they got all nervous and asked me how i knew that. They then proceeded to "unoficially tell me that that was usually the case for most transfer students". Hope this helps.

Thanks, I am attending in the fall as a transfer, but I was just accepted a few days ago so I don't know what that April 1st deadline was. I put down 5 choices for dorms, I didn't know the Hyatt housed students. Is it nice?

dont know, i didnt check it out myself, but i heard from my friends that it was one of the nicest dorms.. dont take my word for it though. The only "problem" with it was that it was on the other side of the river.

So when did you complete your application?

I sent in my application by the deadline of april 1st i just found out the other day that I got in because they were taking forever to tell me, but i wasnt sure if i wanted to transfer or not.

Your situation is different because typically, as a freshman you would want to live in a big social dorm to meet other freshman and stuff, and as a sophomore most people want to get into something nicer and quieter. But since you are new to campus, you might want to look into a dorm more typically "known" as a freshman dorm, just because they are more social and def. the best place to meet people. If you don't think meeting people will be a problem for you, then I highly recommend trying to get into like shelton, somewhere on baystate, south, or even myles, where typically upperclassmen live. Also, living in the Hyatt has its advantages: air conditioning, maid, own restroom. And when 2nd semester rolls around, its up to luck, some people I know from the Hyatt this past year got into wicked cool brownstones on south, but then some were pushed into west and warren, so its really up to chance. Hope that helps.

While the Hyatt is over the river its really just a 5 min. walk or so over the BU Bridge. Its near the BU Boathouse so great river and campus views. All the students that live there become friendly so it may not be so bad as a transfer to get in there. Own bathroom per room, less security rules, maid service.

Don't know if BU still offers this, but I stayed at the Hyatt in Cambridge when S moved in his freshman year, and BU had shuttle bus service over the bridge to the main campus.

Yep, this is still offered to BU student's staying at the Hyatt. Student's can choose between waiting for the shuttle, or just taking a short walk.
