I’m wondering that if being a transfer student to a big city would be hard to adjust to and to find a group of friends. For people who have transferred to bu or anyone who know anything, what are you thoughts? What did you do as a transfer? Was it intimidating? Does housing make a difference (and where would you suggest living as a transfer?)?

^^ yes what about housing there are so many options?

It’s been awhile since I attended college, but I transferred to BU after being a Freshmen at another college. I’ll be honest with you, I think it was more difficult being a transfer at BU, then starting BU as a Freshmen. They say that you meet your best friend in college your Freshmen year and I would say that was the case for me. However, I didn’t help myself, because I didn’t make the effort to seek out the activities and clubs BU has to offer. Thus, my first advice is to get involved. Choose an activity that you like and you’ll meet people that way.

As far as housing, I would stay away from Warren Towers, since it is a predominantly Freshmen dorm. BU has specialty floors and housing. I’m not sure what the availability of those housing situations are but that may be an option to meeting people with similar interests/majors as you. I loved living on Bay State Road. Are you transferring as Sophomores or Juniors? 575 Comm Ave (aka HoJos, West Campus, Myles and Towers seem to have significant Sophomores. According to my son who will be a Sophomore there next year, South Campus seems to be a popular choice amongst current students and is where a lot of Juniors choose to live. The Stuvi Village (student apartments/suites) near West Campus is also very popular as well as nice and is usually open to Juniors.

I had the advantage of being from Massachusetts and knew Boston very well. It’s a big city but “very walkable”. Take the time to walk the Esplanade to Downtown near Fanueill Hall. Take the T to see Harvard Square or walk the streets in the Back Bay. You’ll learn the city very quickly.

I would also say that I’m pretty sure BU must offer an orientation for transfers. Take advantage of this opportunity!

Good luck to you.
