hi,

i was recently admitted to berkeley, but i put down the wrong major back in decemeber and when i got my acceptance letter, i found out i put down microbial biology, which i DON'T want. i sent an email to the admissions office asking if i could change to molecular biology in the college of l/s, but they said no and i would have to talk to the college of l/s to transfer. they said there was no guarantee of a transfer, and if i choose to accept admission, i could possibly be stuck in microbial biology forever. how hard/likely is it for me transfer into college of l/s? thanks.

omg! I'm in the same position (applied to the wrong college - not interested in CNR at ALL!!). Someone please help

Here's their change of college petition: Change of College

Apparently you need to stay in your major for a semester before you're allowed to change. Even still, you should try to get an exception (no fun being in a major you don't even like for half a year)

Here's the email address for the letters and sciences adviser: kpasalns@berkeley.edu

Good luck!!

Even if you can't get an exception, I believe CNR has the same breadth requirements as L&S. Just work on those for your first semester until you can transfer.

That's just silly. People change majors all the time.

I was admitted to the CNR too. I thought it would be easy to transfer out if your interests change. Is it really this hard to change your major and transfer to another college?

MB lets you use AP credits to get out of breadth. I am also going to warn you, Microbial Biology and MCB (and ChemBio) are the hardest bio majors.
