More specifically with microbial biology as their major, since I am looking at that as my possible major... What do you guys think of it ?
Does CNR not have a 7 breadth requirement like L&S ? i didnt see anything of the sort on the CNR's website.

im trying to switch into CNR.
Nope they don’t have 7 breadth req. they only need 15 unit humanities and social science req.

here’s the stuff

http://www.cnr.berkeley.edu/site/forms/oisa/mb_major_snapshot.pdf

look harder…

Do you know if there is some kind of link that shows courses that are deemed to be of “humanities and social science” ? I don’t know what classes to take for these 15 units required.

umm pretty much… not science/math courses…

bump. is there no one in CNR that can give some feedback about it ?

Im in CNR and I love every part of it!!! However my major is Molecular Environmental Biology…which so happens has a concentration in microbiology, but my focus is biodiversity Hahah as it so happens I came in as a Microbiology major, but switched because MEB has more wiggle room in terms of class choices unlike MB. I encourage you to look into MEB, more specifically in the MB concentration and see if the choice in classes intrigues you. CNR <3

I talked to an adviser and they said they’re pretty lenient with their humanities requirement. It just has to be not a science course, pretty much. I just took a history and a philosophy class to get the credit, and i’ll probably take a couple more to get the credit.

Does anyone know how easy it is to double major in CNR? It looks like some of the requirements overlap a lot, i.e. MolTox and microbial bio. So you would only need about 5 more classes to double major since all the prereqs and most upper divs are pretty much the same.

^
you can only have so many upper div overlaps. around 1 or 2 i think.

Yea i am also looking into MEB as of right now. there seems to be more diversity in classes (aka the core classes) thank you very much for the input =]

What would you guys say about this tentative schedule…
Chem 1a (took ap chem and got a 4)
Anthropology 2ac or ESPM 50ac or ESPM 2
Stats 2
Bioeng 24
thanks a lot =]

Chem 1A, with your AP Chem score of 4, shouldn’t be hard.
Take ESPM 50AC for sure. It’s an easy A.
Stats 2. If you understand the textbook, which is not hard to follow, you should get an A.
Never took Bioeng 24.

chem 1a was killer this past fall…i got murdered.

what teacher did you have ? stacy seems to be a really easy teacher according to all the stats i’ve seen.

Your schedule seems fine. Chem 1A is rather time consuming, but it wont necessarily be a deadly class that weeds you out…that’s the job reserved for o-chem. If you can I would take ESPM 50AC since it is really easy, but you would have to phase I the class as it fills up VERY fast. ESPM 2(The biosphere) from what my friend said was her worst class that she had taken and it was just her basically memorizing and trying to understand boring cycles. Stats 2 is a class of medium difficulty, but I love stats =). My friend who even took AP Stat struggled a bit, but ended up with an A- in the class.

eh the only reason as to why I am taking ESPM 2 is because it is a requirement for anyone with MEB as a major. Among the other choices, it seemed the best but I guess ill revisit those other options.

You can also take ESPM 6 for breadth and I have heard that it’s easy and on pick-a-prof it shows that more people get A’s in ESPM 6 in comparison to ESPM 2. I would consider ESPM 6 also if you like the environment and animals, but I presume the reason you want to take 2 is for the time.

Does anyone know when the fall 2010 online schedule for incoming freshmen will be available online ?

They wont have “fall 2010” until mid-Spring of 2010, but they do have the schedule up for FALL 2009 if that’s what you mean.

Im confused… isnt fall of 2009 already past or is it for the incoming freshmen Oo ?

If you are an incoming FALL admit freshman than your first semester (unless taking summer sessions) will be FALL 2009. We are currently in Spring 2009 then Summer 2009 and then you will enter Fall 2009 and then Spring 2010 and so on.

This is the schedule for Fall 2009 (notice all classes are empty because nobody has being able to sign up for them yet meaning its the most recent)-
