Transfer from CSULB to UCLA as a film student?

I was accepted into CSULB and plan to study film production (unfortunately, it's impacted). My dream, however, is to go to the UCLA film school. If I maintain a high GPA and am very active at CSULB, do I have a chance of getting into UCLA as a transfer? Or should I stay at CSULB?

I was also accepted into UC Riverside, but they only have media and visual culture STUDIES, not production. Would I have a higher chance of getting into UCLA as a transfer if I attend UCR instead?

I don’t mean to sound pessimistic but it is highly unlikely. Not only is csu to uc transfer very difficult in the first place, but the UCLA film department is highly competitive. I think it is one of the hardest majors to get into at the whole school.

It would be better to go to Community College for two years because you would get priority consideration for transfer admissions. Use the two years to get a good GPA, enroll in tap, finish all of your lower division courses and build up your ECs and profile.

no question about it, if you really want to go to ucla going to cc and getting straight a’s for the most part is probably the only way. if your happy with csulb though go through with it and make the most of it

No chance at all, wait I lied…maybe about a 1% chance.

I cannot stress this enough, if you’re set on transfer GO TO A CC!!! Get a HIGH gpa, be active on campus, especially in some sort of production or media … maybe get a media internship somewhere? anything that shows you stand out and are competitive in the media field. Ucla film us extremely difficult to get into and if you aren’t prepared to work your butt off for even a slight chance don’t expect to make it. If you love film and want a more stable chance at a career stick to cslb, they have a good program too and you can probably get internships/job opportunities since it’s not too far from LA… I’d say only go to a ccc if you’re set on dedication and hard work to get to ucla . Other uc’s don’t have good production programs for film so you’d be better off at cslb or ucla

Long Beach film isn’t bad at all, I wouldn’t risk not being able to do it just to have a <1% shot at UCLA film.

What about USC? Do I have even a TINY chance to transfer there?

I don’t know how difficult it is to go from a CSU to USC, but the film department at USC is just as competitive if not more than UCLA. You got to remember UCLA and USC are two of the top film schools in the nation, its going to be hard regardless. It all comes down to how many csu transfers usc accepts. In the mean time work on your portfolio, internships, etc. That with a high gpa is probably what will make it or break it.

It would be easier to transfer to USC than UCLA. I suggest you post a new thread asking about USC here [Transfer Students - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/)

^for film? probably not. USC’s film program is easily the best in the world. I wouldn’t worry about CSULB all that much though. IIRC, George Lucas is an alumnus from there (he also tried to get into USC, three times, and was shot down each time haha)

@beyphy USC Film accepts more students than UCLA Film. Also, USC doesn’t gives priority to CCC like UCLA.
