I’m currently a Freshman at FIU but I want to transfer out because I really dislike the school to the point where my mental health is being affected. I have been looking for ways to transfer out but UF requires 60 credits. I’m a bit iffy if I should transfer to Santa Fe until I get my AA completed. However, I’m on a pre med track and am worried if transferring from school to school will look bad for medical schools. Any advice?
Your mental health is more important than what something might look like.
First thing in the morning, get to the counseling center and sit in front of the receptionist until you have someone to talk with. The counselors there have helped a lot of students like you, and will be able to work with you to find the best solution to your problems. Heading home to Santa Fe for your AA could turn out to be a very good option,
I certainly agree with @happymomof1 that your mental health comes first. Know that if your environment is part of the problem, then changing your city and your institution may help - with deeper issues often require professional help.
If you believe that attending & graduating from UF provides you with the best opportunity to achieve your academic and career goals, then transferring to Santa Fe College and completing your AA degree is the best way to get into to UF. SF sends more students to UF then the other 27 community colleges combined. Once enrolled at UF as juniors, our graduates do just as well as students who start at UF as freshmen. While I do not work in med school admissions, my experience is that they want to see that you earned a bachelor’s degree and will apply scores based on your overall GPA, your GPA in your core pre-med courses, and your MCAT scores. The route you took (transferring from FIU → SF → UF will not matter), but what you did along the way is what counts.
Finally, note is it is not too late to apply to SF as a transfer student for spring 2019. Class registration for spring begins next week, so your timing is fine. If you decide to come to SF, please let me know how I can assist with your transition. Best wishes.
