I would like to transfer schools and I would also like to play soccer in college. I cannot play on the pepperdine team because I am not at that level, but I am 90% sure i could play on pnlus team. I feel that pepperdine has just enough religiousness about the school and I don't want to regret transferring to a more religious school. I have no problem with religion. I was raised episcopalian, but I have stopped attending church. I know that point loma has more required chapel but I want to here from a student at point loma how religious do you feel the school is? Also what do you do for fun? Are there any parties?

First off, what are your reasons for transferring? Is it merely athletic? I can understand that you want to continue competing at the college level but Pepperdine is ranked much higher than PLNU and therefore on paper the job opportunities upon graduation of Pepperdine are much higher than that of PLNU. Is there not a club or intramural team at Pepperdine? Are you sure you can’t play for Pepperdine? Talk to the coach and see if you can work something out, nearly everyone at Pepperdine is nice and personable, from my experience.

It’s partly athletic partly because I don’t like the school. I am still a little conflicted because I know pepperdine academically is a better school. It also costs me a lot of money to go to pepperdine and I will have a ton of loans if I graduate from here and none if I transfer to point loma. And I know i couldn’t play on the team… I already tried out.

Why will Point Loma be less expensive? Do you have a written guarantee of the cost difference or of a scholarship? Are there other affordable options?

If you have not started your second semester yet at Pepperdine, why don’t you take a leave of absence now while you sort things out? Personally, I cannot imagine that a Nazarene environment would be comfortable for a lapsed Episcopalian. By the standards of the Nazarenes I have known over the years, practicing Episcopalians have barely qualified as Christians.

Thanks for your input. I have heard that plnu is pretty liberal but I just wanted to hear other people’s takes on it. Point loma costs less as I don’t have any scholarships at pepperdine right now and I don’t feel its worth over 50 thousand a year.
