I am currently a student at texas a&m I have a 3.3 GPA and I am trying to transfer to UT. my first place major would be finance but I know how hard mccombs is so I was thinking economics since it would be in the college of liberal arts and should be easier to get into. My main reason for transferring is that I heard mays business school isn’t great and I would love to be in Austin. So my question is what do you think I should do, is it even worth transferring?
If you’re asking a board of Longhorns this question, you will receive a lot of bias. Just saying. We are fiercely loyal to UT.
What were your reasons for choosing A&M in the first place? Do any of those reasons still apply? McCombs is definitely better than Mays, but A&M is a fine school and your job prospects won’t be all that higher with a UT degree than an A&M degree. Of course, if you’re unhappy in College Station (and why wouldn’t you be, it’s terrible), definitely consider other options. I really can’t say for sure if a 3.3 would get you into COLA, even, but you can always apply. That’s definitely not a terrible GPA.
Hope you get things figured out!
I have wanted to go to UT my whole life and when I applied from high school I applied to mechanical engineering and business which was a mistake because those are probably the two hardest majors to get into. So I decided to go to A&M instead of UTSA and its fine but college station isn’t really that much fun. Transferring is a hassle and if UT won’t help my job prospects that much more than Mays then I don’t really see the point of transferring apart from wanting to live in Austin. I know I will be able to get a better gpa next semester because I had pledgeship last semester so I will have a lot more time to study.
