I’m currently attending a community college in Texas and due to recent events & personal reasons am looking to transfer out of state, mostly interested in California and a CSU school such as the LA, San Bernardino, Dominguez Hills, or Fullerton campus. I guess what I’m asking is will my credits such as science, college algebra, psychology, sociology credits transfer? Is it difficult to get accepted as an out of state transfer at a CSU school?
Do you have money to be a full pay OOS student?
every transcript is individually evaluated but, i imagine most of your credits will probably transfer over.
All the CSUs only take Jr level transfers so, you may need to attend a CC first, depending on how many units you have.
A good point about tuition - OOS is absurdly expensive. Are you sure this makes sense?
Also, I’d like to mention an extremely important, but unmentioned point:
CSU’s, and most other public California institutions, accept VERY few OOS transfer students. To the point where, it is imprudent to apply, since you’d be almost completely wasting your time and money.
It’s safe to say that OOS transfer students should completely avoid UC’s / CSU’s.
You’re better off looking elsewhere. If you can’t afford to possibly pay FULL tuition as an OOS student, I suggest you stay instate.
Priority goes to in-state CC students and being in the local service area is extremely helpful. Dominguez Hills is the only non-impacted CSU campus you are targeting, so you may have a good chance there as a transfer.
As stated above you need 60 semester/90 quarter units to transfer. CSU’s have specific GE requirements needed to transfer along with completing major requirements.
CSU requirements:
Have completed 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units)
Have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) units of general education courses, graded C or better in each course including:
1 course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units in written communication,
1 course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units in oral communication,
1 course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units in critical thinking, AND
1 course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units in mathematics/quantitative reasoning. The mathematics course must be above the level of intermediate algebra. Go to www.ASSIST.org for listings of CCC courses that meet the general education requirements.
Have a grade point average of 2.00 or better in all transferable college units attempted, and
Are in good standing at the last college or university attended (i.e. eligible to re–enroll at that college or university).
Also as an OOS transfer, you are looking at $36K+/year to attend.
