I recently moved to California this June but was also taking CC courses in Massachusetts. I took a total of 43 credits, a majority at least 30 being general ed courses and CS courses (which I will probably have to retake some for IGETC purposes) and 13 credits for Algebra, trig, and precalc. I plan on pursuing a Math-CS major at UCSD, but in general, does anyone know whether or not these 40 credits will have a negative effect on me in the transfer process? I’m still a minor and my parents are moving out soon so I hopefully won’t have to worry about residency, and I will be taking calc 1,2,3, linear, discrete, diffEq, physics 1,2,3, as well as the transferrable CS courses here in San Diego with calc 1, Java, and a C++ class in progress at the moment. My fear is that I won’t be eligible for transfer due to the amount of OOS credit as well as taking too many credits. I’m pretty sure I will have over 90 by the time I’m done with CC, 40ish from MA and 50ish from Cal, but they are all CC credits.
To establish in-state CA residency, you need to be living in CA 366 days (with your parents) prior to filing for residency. If you plan to attend any CA public school for Fall 2018, you will be paying OOS fees.
Regarding transfer credits, you might want to have your OOS transcript evaluated by the community college you are attending to see if you will need to take/retake any classes.
Here is a link for SD Mesa College and high unit transfers. Although 3 years old, it will be applicable:
If all your courses are from a community college (in other words, all lower division), don’t worry about how many units you acquire. The UC will just transfer 70 and the rest will get subject credit. The transfer ceiling max won’t apply to you - it only comes into play with upper division courses.
