So I've decided on going to UCR this fall, but I'm really looking to transfer to a private in a year or two. UCR doesn't have my major (I know, I should've checked before I applied). I know UC-to-UC transfer is hard, but will it be difficult to transfer to a private? Sorry if this is a silly question, I just want to make sure!

UC to UC is not hard, it’s just priority will be given to CCC transfer students. If you’re GPA, ECs, and essays are very competitive, you have a good chance to get into another UC.

Transfer to a private will be just as difficult, depending in which school your aiming for.

Transferring to a private (whether you are in CC/UC/CSU) is a lot tougher than any transfer. Its doable, but at times such a pain.

The actual process is a little difficult and can be a little annoying when you need to figure out what classes transfer over (especially for upper div classes), but it’s not that difficult if you meet all the criteria. I went to UCSC as a freshman and was able to gain admission to other UC’s and privates by transferring. Let me know if you have any questions.

MidnightGolfer, Hi i’m new to this site and I know that you posted your response a little while ago but I will be a freshman at UCSC this year and I am dying to go the University of Miami. I have a few questions regarding how you went about transferring/your experience at UCSC. Did you apply as a transfer after two years at ucsc or only one year? Did your quarter credits get transferred (the freshman year credits)? And I just need help ahh hahaha

UC to a private isn’t that hard. It’s easier than getting admitted from high school. Just be sure your high school stats are good (SAT & GPA). If your HS GPA isn’t good, at least make sure the SAT is good. I believe the transfer admit rate for USC is actually quite high (around 30%).

And also, MidnightGolfer, what were your stats at UCSC and SAT to get into Cornell? Thanks!

I’m going to attend ucsc this fall, but I want to transfer to uc chicago or columbia. My sat scores weren’t that great, and that’s the reason why I got denied to those schools, eventhough my gpa was good. MidnightGolfer is it possibel for me to transfer to those schools how did you do it??
@marylu123 it is unlikely you will get a response on a two year old thread…
