hey! So im an incoming freshman at ucr and while i am thankful for my acceptance, I cant help but feel a little let down. I am looking into transfer options and I have a few questions.

when do you actually send in the transfer application..? If i wanted to enter (say another UC) I would need to have completed all prerequisite courses & submit the application as junior? or would i be submitting the application the fall of my sophomore year?

what kind of activities/ecs look good on transfer applications

Im looking into transferring to another uc (i know they give priority to cc's but i still believe it is worth a shot) are all pre reqs the same? for example if I complete all the prerequisites for computer science at ucr & i am successfully admitted as a transfer would those courses be sufficient enough to start upper division courses?

does anyone have success stories?

I know people are going to comment saying that if i want to increase my chances of transferring to another uc I should just go to community college however I have chosen UCR over my local jc for several reasons. 1) because of financial aid I only have to pay around 2k a year. 2) living at home and taking a 2hr bus ride to a jc does not sound fun to me

You submit application by fall of your sophomore year, and have to finish the pre reqs by the end of your sophomore year (you will be transferring in fall of your junior year).

Ecs related to your major, and volunteer experience are both good. Also anything you are interested in. But most of the UCs don’t care too much about this, mostly just Berkeley and maybe UCLA, maybe another one too Idk.

All pre reqs are not the same, but if you complete all of them at UCR, many of them should help u at other UCs. What you could do is go on assist.org to figure it out. Although this is intended for cc students, it should still be of help to you.

Many people have successfully done UC-UC transfer, but not me.

I’m not going to try to convince you, but if you do decide to look into cc, many of them have online programs so you wouldn’t have to take a 2hr bus ride. Good luck!

Hi, I’m an incoming freshman also interested in transferring to another UC. What UCs are you considering?Anyways yeah follow what the person above me said. Definitely use ASSIST but make sure you’re on track for your major at UCR because transferring is not guaranteed since we are at a lower priority than CC students. From what I’ve seen your chances are better, especially for UCD, UCI, and UCSB if you have a 3.5 GPA and above, maybe slightly higher for UCSD. You can probably get away with lower for UCSC (idk if you want to apply there) but it might be the easiest considering not as many people want to transfer there from another UC and they are less selective in general in terms of GPA. I mean it’s also one of the easier UCs to get in as a freshman. ECs and personal statement matter more for Berkeley and LA. LA apparently is the only UC to give UC to UC transfers same priority as CC transfers and Berkeley takes the least amount of intercampus transfers, they apparently don’t like them as much.

^ correct me if I’m wrong, but according to the most recent Fall 2014 stats, UCLA does not offer uc to uc transfers the same priority as CC students.

Admit rate for CC students: 29.95%
Admit rate for inter campus transfers: 21.81%

However, CC students accounted for 84% of the transfer applicant pool, as oppose to only 3% of inter campus transfers.

Good luck in your academic goals! :D

A lot of ppl get in via UC-UC transfer. I would say key is good GPA, on course with graduation req, and maybe a good reason (superior dept at future UC, family situation, etc).

We don’t know why there is an 8% discrepancy. Perhaps the transfer hopefuls are just jerking the UC’s chain - in other words avg GPA, no good reason to transfer except bored.
