transfer from ucsd in freshman year

how do i transfer from ucsd to ucla or usc in or after my freshman year? i want to get out of san diego as soon as possible, what are the guidelines to do so? what would make me stand out and what are the steps i have to take?

Are you a rising sophomore or rising freshman? If you are the latter, you should probably give UCSD a chance before making a decision to transfer. However, if you still want to go through with it, you need to tell us where you want to transfer. The process is as "simple" as filling out an application. If you want more help, you'll need to be a little more specific with where you want to transfer, why, and maybe some stats.

it is not that simple. first off, you cant transfer to ucla until after your sophomore year. uc's will not accept applications until your junior year. you also need to evaluate why you are transferring, so you can avoid, if possible, the hassle of the tranfer process.

you need to get decent grades for your first couple terms at UCSD so that you will be a competitive transfer. But, USC will HEAVILY weight your high school record if you are trying to transfer after your first year, so keep that in mind. Your high school record is still pretty important for your transfer application.

you also need to schedule your classes so that you can transfer as many credits as possible. if you are going in declared in a particular major, you must create a schedule that will satisfy as many major requirements abd also take classes that will be transferrable for equivalent courses at USC. Look at USC's site for articulation agreements with UCSD, which are few relative to California community colleges.

Give UCSD a chance, but if you know that it is not what you are looking for, then you should definetely consider transferring. im guessing you just went to orientation and got a taste of UCSD life...

What do so many students want to leave UCSD? I have already heard this before.

From what I heard: lack of social life, lack of prestige, heavily populated with asians, no college town, no school spirit, no football. I'm going to be an incoming freshman this fall and regardless of what I hear, I'm still excited. I hate how these people judge UCSD before they're even there.

Actually, you can transfer after completion of your freshmen year to UCLA but you MUST HAVE junior standing... Which means you need to have completed as many credits as someone who has just ended their sophomore year. I know of someone who is working their ass off in summer school to complete as many credits so he can transfer to UCLA from UCI after one year.

fsfosco:
From the looks of it fsfosco, since you're posting this now, unless you passed a ton of AP Exams with 3's and higher and are planning to enroll in summer school (though I think it's too late), UCLA seems to be impossible for you. Maybe someone else can help you out with USC. I heard transferring to USC is not hard at all.

Just out of curiousity:
If you are an incoming freshmen, what do you hate so much about UCSD? I mean, I don't see how you could hate anything (except possibly the campus) before you're even there. Like Jimmy said, maybe you should save yourself the hassle and give UCSD a chance.

If you are going to be a sophomore this fall, then I have nothing to say but good luck in transferring out. People are entitled to hate what they want lol. :)

whoever said UCSD isn’t prestigous is tripppin.

and in order to transfer to any UC you must have a certain amount of units completed, as well as a high GPA, and basically go through the whole application process again. this will most likely be your junior year of college, so make the best of it for the next year, then transfer out.

VERY old thread…

But let me address something quickly:
lack of social life = True
lack of prestige = Not True
heavily populated with asians = Very True
no college town = True
no school spirit = True
no football = True

I’m closing this thread because it is 2 years old.

sarah, It’s OK to dig up old threads for information, but please do NOT answer the OPs question as if it is current, this tends to confuse people.
