Transfer from Vanderbilt

Hi, I am an international student at Vanderbilt currently. I wish to transfer out of Vanderbilt because I find the lack of resources for my intended major Mathematics and Computer Science.

Freshman GPA: 3.88
Major: Mathematics & CS

ACT: 33; superscore: 35
SATII: Mathematics: 800; Physics 800; Chemistry: 800
AP Calculus BC: 5
AP Macroeconomics: 5
AP Microeconomics: 5
AP Physics C Mechanics: 5
AP Physics C Electromagnetics: 5
AP Statistics: 5
AP US history: 3
High School GPA: Because I am an international student, the grade is not computed into GPA, but is averaged around 91%.

High School activities: Founder of a Motor Club, basketball, piano, calligraphy, founder of an incubator, volunteers in a local museum.
College activities: join in several clubs, continue my incubator founded at high school, piano.

Transfer Schools: UChicago, UPenn, Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Brown, Rice.

What are my chances of getting into these schools? What other schools should I consider transferring to?

Hard to tell because a lot of those schools have sub 10% acceptance rates, but you are obviously qualified and coming from Vandy will help. I think you have a good shot at some of those schools, but again, nothing is a sure thing. I would also suggest applying to Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, UT Austin, UIUC, and Berkeley. Vandy may be more prestigious overall than some of these schools, but the CS departments at these schools are top tier.

For math, Vandy is ranked higher than Hopkins, Rice, Chicago, Cornell Northwestern & Duke.

Vandy is aslo ranked higher than Northwestern, & Brown for Comp Sci.

So, just be very specific with. your transfer app on what the new school offers that Vandy does not (besides perceived ‘prestige’.)

I would not transfer from Vandy. I think what you are missing is not the support or lack of resources. Are you a shy person? You will regret it. How are the resources in Hopkins, Rice, Chicago, Cornell Northwestern & Duke good compared to Vandy?
