Transfer from Wesleyan University

Has anyone from Wesleyan or a liberal arts college done this transfer? Financial aid from Vanderbilt slightly better, although not sure how that’s going to change. I’m interested in economics and environmental studies (which i don’t think Vanderbilt specifically has), and possibly premed. At my current school, perks are I could be a ta next semester, have some establishment in clubs, and be in a single. However, I feel dissatisfied with the student body’s ultra-liberal attitude that borders on hypocrisy (although there are also many people who aren’t like this), and the administration that spends money on useless initiatives while the campus seems to fall apart with our lack of endowment. The problems I have are potential loss of credit, Vandy’s harsher grading, and more requirements for my major that might make me behind. Thoughts?

You really are going from one extreme to another. Do you like frats/sororities? Sports? “Southern” atmosphere? It is definitely more conservative there.

Vanderbilt seems fairly welcoming of transfer applications. It has rolling admissions through the “early summer” and they appear to only require a semester’s worth of college credit (I’m assuming from your housing options at Wesleyan that you’re a rising sophomore.) Sorry, things have not worked out. :frowning:

@bonappetit : Don’t buy into the “harsher grading” hype please. I doubt it applies to your majors. Also, as a much larger school, they are likely to run classes differently (especially in STEM and social sciences like econ). More medium sized or even large courses typically spells a lower non-exam based work-load and often easier exams (to make grading easier) than a smaller course by an instructor at another academically renowned institution (or even the same institution, but more tier 1 privates only offer only 1 or a couple of sections of major intro. courses in each dept and they may be taught by the same faculty. Two medium/large sections plus same faculty usually = less intense than it could be though probably still much better than “not so competitive” institutions). GPAs of those who transfer from top liberal arts schools often actually increase (even in majors that are supposedly harsher grading at the research institution). The exception may be if you have to take any tough STEM intro. weedouts. Those, in some cases, can give the LAC a run for the money (for intro. classes at these schools, a grading rubric more centered on the exams is typically a bad thing even if the exams do end up a tad easier than the LAC).

How difficult is it for transfers to rush into a sorority?

So you decided to transfer?

I still don’t know. Got into Colorado College as well, so I’m leaning towards that. Have you ever transferred?
