Hello all, I applied to UIUC priority for comp sci in engineering. My second choice was Math and Computer Science in LAS. If I can't get into the comp sci in engineering program, how hard would it be to transfer from LAS Math and Comp Sci to Comp Sci in engineering? Thanks!!

See Drusba’s post below. Transferring into engineering from LAS or externally is the same. The post is old, but, I believe, still applicable. Drusba can you correct me, if things have changed?:

Transfer into computer science in engineering from another college at UIUC requires same minimums applicable to those transferring from other universities, For CS, you currently need a minimum 3.2 college GPA to be considered. However, CS in engineering is currently an impacted major and you will likely need a lot higher than that over the next few years to actually be able to transfer. Also, in the hypothetical you describe your chances of transfer after first year would be low because for transfers into sophomore year the fact that you were not accepted for CS engineering when you applied as a freshman will be considered against you in determining whether a transfer should be allowed. You also have another issue if you want to transfer from LAS CS. UIUC’s goal is to make LAS CS the equal of its engineering CS when it comes to recognition in the hiring community. LAS majors can take all the same CS courses as the engineering students and the math LAS department works closely with the CS engineering department in the improvement and development of both programs. They are not encouraging transfer from one to the other on the idea that one may be better than the other and if you request transfer in that situation, you can face more of a risk of the transfer will not be allowed.
