My application was for ENG but they deferred me initially and yesterday, placed me into an alternate choice, that being undecided for LAS. I really wanted to do CS at the UIUC and I don't want this hope to be shattered. Is it possible to transfer into Engineering?

Yes, it is possible after a year (less likely) or two years (more likely because the departments favor transfers after two years and some will only take after two years). You essentially have to take a lot of the same courses, math, science, rhetoric, and CS that engineering students take their first or second year and get a high GPA. Usually there is a minimum of 3.0 or higher to be considered but then you may need higher to get accepted.

Note if you meet the course requirements and have a fairly high GPA (the hard part), your chances of transfer are very good. The intercollege transfer acceptance rate into engineering after second year, unlike the business college, tends to be fairly high (70% range). The reason: engineering tends to lose about 40% of their incoming freshman by end of sophomore year creating a lot empty seats to fill.

Getting the high GPA is the tough part. For example, "weed-out" courses like the requiired Physics courses are notorious for having greater than 30% get D's or lower and another 10% or more dropping the course to avoid getting that D or lower.

Ok. So I've also been accepted to first year engineering at Purdue and CS at UIC. Should I consider going to either one of those for the first two years and switching into the UIUC for the last two? I don't generally want to do this because I'd have to switch between two campuses and with all the friends I would potentially make at one campus and all that jazz, I'm not sure how I'd feel moving two years later. What would you reccomend?

Its a personal decision. But you need to look at this way: if you go to UIUC as LAS, you face a risk of never being admitted to engineering. If you go to one of the others, you are already in engineering at that college. If your strong desire is to do engineering, then you really need to give serious consideration to the no risk alternatives.

Purdue has a fantastic engineering program.

The three University of Illinois campuses: Chicago, Springfield, and Urbana, tend to be more generous in terms of transfers across the campuses. Its easier to transfer to Urbana from Springfield or Chicago than other universities.

If you are an Illinois resident, cost might be a big issue at Purdue.

yeah. purdue is pricey for outstate people..

I'm also admitted to LAS while my first choice was EE. I am accepted to Purdue and Minnesota Twin Cities for EE, but i think i'll go to UIUC cause it has a better reputation in the country so..~
i dunno yet
i'm waiting for u mich..
