Transfer or First-Time

Hi, my basic question is wether or not I'm a transfer student or a first-time applicant.

I graduated from high school a year ago, in January, half a year early. After I went to work full time for half a year until the fall of this year. In the fall os 2012 I attended a community college. However, I was fortunate enough to get a really great job that prohibited me from attending that college, so I withdrew from 2 of the 4 courses I was taking and took two failing grades in the other 2 courses. Now, I would like to go back to school full time, near my new job. I was in the top ten of my graduating class and already have half a year of college credits under my belt that I took in high school.

My questions are the following:
1. Do I have to report my transcripts from the community college I attended?
2. Will my two failing grades rule me out from good colleges or will a letter explaining them help my case?
3. Do I apply as a freshman applicant or as a transfer applicant? (I have 12 college credits, currently.)

Colleges vary. You need to contact your target schools and ask. Good luck

Yes all schools require that you send transcripts from all colleges you attended previously. They check that information here:

Depends on the college.

It depends on the college. The definition of a transfer applicant ranges from having taken 1 post-HS college course to less than a year of full time college. Start with the college websites, most state specifically who is a transfer vs. fr applicant.

I see. Thank you. I will be in touch with my colleges of choice to clear this up.
