I'm a student at one of the UC's and I've been thinking about transferring. I never really wanted to go here and I've been planning on transferring before school even started, but since I'm a pre-med now I'm not sure if I should transfer. I'm going to be a second-year and I have a very strong GPA and SATs. If I stay here I'm sure I can make my med school profile look great because I'm one of the best students here, but at the same time I'm not exactly sure if I want to be here. The academics and opportunities for students are great, but sometimes I feel like I don't belong here. If I do transfer, I'm afraid my grades will drop and I won't be a good med school candidate. What do you guys think? Should I stay here and do well but feel like I don't belong or should I transfer and risk looking less attractive to med schools? Do med schools look down on transferring?

if you feel that you don't belong there then transfer. There are countless premed out there who have also transferred to other schools. BTW... the SATS has nothing to do with medical school admissions.

which UC are you from, I'm in the same position as you man, and thats one of the things i am afraid of... i say you should go for it, and transfer out... remember college isnt just about going to medschool for premeds, its a period of learning about yourself too, if you dont belong at the UC you go to, definitely transfer! good luck man, you can PM if you need any help or support or anything

Either way you look at it, there's advantages and disadvantes to decing to do both. Med schools have become so focused on GPA that if you switch, you may risk lowering GPA, and thus, your chances. Then again, you may do just great at a different school and be much happier. All in all, I'm sure a Med school will appreciate the fact that you decided to challenge yourself and put your well-being before any graduate school's admissions interest.
