Does anyone have any insight into transferring out of an art school to a 'typical' school'? Do admissions reps take such students seriously? For example, I'm looking into the possibility of transferring from SCAD to another institution, most likely one that offers an accredited architecture degree. I am currently pursuing a BFA/MArch at SCAD.

The advice you get on the Arch sub-forum is likely to be the best as art/architecture is usually different from other disciplines since much rests on your portfolio.

I actually did this, and had none of my art school units transfer. I attended Otis up until my junior year. I was disappointed with my major, realized the value in the liberal arts/humanity classes and decided to apply straight out of of art school as a transfer into “regular” schools. I was rejected by all the schools I had applied to but I don’t blame them my gpa wasn’t high(then) and I was applying as a non art/design major. So it might be different for you since you still want to major in architecture. I had to start from scratch at a community college, and am now going to UCLA in the fall.

In transferring GPA will matter, in addition if you’re entering an architecture program so will your portfolio which will be even tougher. I tend to think most schools with an accredited architecture degree are competitive at the transfer level. Have you considered just finishing it, and just getting your masters at an accredited university? You can either do a Barch or a March to become an architect. Transferring might add an extra year to your education, which will be the equivalent of you staying at scad, and then doing an accredited masters program.
